Mechanical Engineer – Multiple Career Levels

PAR Systems designs and builds custom mechanical and automation systems that solve complex challenges across industries including nuclear, aerospace, defense, and advanced manufacturing. Within our Critical Handling Solutions (CHS) business segment, our work includes advanced cranes and lifting equipment, large fabricated structures, custom machinery, and material handling systems for hazardous environments. Our solutions are engineered to solve our customers’ most complex challenges, not pulled from a catalog.

We're looking for experienced Mechanical Engineers at all levels.  Levels are based on the experience, technical depth, independence, and leadership each candidate brings, not whether they've worked with every application or tool we use.If your background is in custom machinery, large fabrication, or critical handling equipment and you enjoy solving complex engineering problems, we'd like to hear from you, even if your experience doesn't match every area listed below.

What You'll Own

As a Mechanical Engineer at PAR, you'll help bring custom equipment from concept through design, fabrication, assembly, testing, and commissioning. Depending on your experience, you may contribute to or independently lead the mechanical scope of a project, including:

  • Translating customer and system requirements into mechanical concepts, designs, and technical approaches.
  • Developing 3D models, engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations for mechanical systems and assemblies.
  • Evaluating loads, stresses, deflection, fatigue, motion, power transmission, and other relevant design requirements.
  • Designing for manufacturability, assembly, reliability, safety, and maintainability while balancing performance, cost, and schedule.
  • Identifying technical risks, resolving design and integration issues, and supporting fabrication, assembly, and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Supporting or leading design reviews, design verification, Factory Acceptance Testing, installation, and Site Acceptance Testing.
  • Partnering with controls, electrical, software, project management, manufacturing, quality, and suppliers throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Supporting proposals through concept development, technical estimates, and evaluation of design alternatives.
  • At more senior levels, owning mechanical execution for complex systems or projects, providing technical direction, mentoring engineers, reviewing critical designs and analyses, and improving engineering standards and capabilities.

Experience & Requirements: What You Bring

We're looking for a combination of relevant experience and technical capability. The requirements needed to be successful in this role are:

  • A BS in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Relevant mechanical engineering experience, with increasing responsibility and independence appropriate to your career level.
  • Experience designing cranes and lifting equipment, large fabricated structures, custom machinery, industrial automation, or other material handling systems.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to apply calculations and appropriate analysis methods to support design decisions.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD and engineering drawings; SolidWorks experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of fabrication, machining, material selection, tolerances, and design for manufacturability and assembly.
  • The ability to interpret specifications, apply relevant codes and standards, and incorporate safety, reliability, and maintainability into designs.
  • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering or project team.
  • Demonstrated ownership of technical work, including planning, identifying risks, solving problems, and delivering on commitments.
  • Clear communication and the ability to provide technical guidance and mentorship appropriate to your career level.
  • Openness to using AI in your engineering workflow.
  • Ability to travel to customer and supplier sites for project support, installation, and commissioning. Travel is typically below 10%, with periods of up to 25% as project needs require.
  • U.S. Person.

Some of the applications, tools, and specialized experience valued in this role include:

  • Cranes & Critical Handling: Cranes, hoists, below-the-hook devices, nuclear handling equipment, and other critical material handling systems.
  • Large Fabrication: Structural weldments, heavy equipment, large mechanical assemblies, and integration of fabricated and precision-machined components.
  • Machine Design & Automation: Custom machinery, automated assembly, tooling, fixtures, robotics integration, and electromechanical systems.
  • Hazardous Environments: Equipment for radioactive, contaminated, explosive, or other hazardous environments, including remote operation, maintenance, decontamination, and equipment recovery.
  • CAD & Engineering Tools: SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD software, drawing management, and engineering calculation tools.
  • Analysis: Finite element analysis, structural and dynamic analysis, fatigue evaluation, and seismic design.
  • Codes & Standards: Familiarity with CMAA, ASME NOG-1, ASME NUM-1, or other applicable machinery and material handling standards.
  • Nuclear Quality Assurance: Experience working under an ASME NQA-1 quality assurance program, including design control, documentation, design verification, and traceability.
  • Engineering Leadership: Leading complex projects or technical teams, mentoring engineers, and developing engineering standards and processes.
  • Additional Credentials: An MS in Mechanical Engineering or Professional Engineer licensure.

Experience in these specialized areas is preferred; candidates are not expected to bring experience in every area.

Technical Careers at PAR Systems – Where You Could Fit

Great engineering careers are not one-size-fits-all. At PAR Systems, engineers grow by taking on bigger challenges, expanding their technical expertise, and increasing their impact. Whether you are independently delivering complex designs, leading technical work, solving problems across teams, or shaping the future of our engineering capabilities, there is room to grow and contribute.

Our engineering career path includes Engineer, Advanced Engineer, Senior Engineer, and Principal Engineer, with increasing scope, independence, technical leadership, and impact at each level. This posting focuses on experienced candidates at the Advanced, Senior, and Principal levels. Progression is based on demonstrated technical capability, problem-solving, leadership, and impact, not simply years of overall experience.

For our experienced engineering opportunities, you don't need to determine where you fit before applying. We encourage you to start with a conversation. Together, we'll explore your experience, technical depth, and career interests to determine how they align with our engineering levels and opportunities.
