Position Summary:
The Executive Director of Retail Pricing is responsible for developing and leading retail pricing strategy that drives customer value, profitable growth, and pricing consistency across the business. This role sets the strategic direction for everyday pricing, price architecture, category guardrails, and pricing execution, while ensuring pricing decisions are grounded in customer behavior, competitive context, financial outcomes, and enterprise priorities.
This leader partners closely with merchandising, promotion, analytics, technology, and operations teams to align pricing strategy with category objectives, promotional activity, and broader customer growth goals. The role combines strategic pricing leadership with strong decision governance, modern analytics, and disciplined execution to improve pricing effectiveness across stores and digital channels.
The Executive Director will also help modernize pricing decision making by advancing the use of data, analytics, optimization tools, and AI-enabled decision support to strengthen insight generation, scenario evaluation, speed, and consistency. This includes defining strategic guardrails for how pricing decisions should be made and ensuring new capabilities are practical, scalable, and embedded in day-to-day ways of working.
Key Responsibilities:
Pricing Strategy and Guardrails
• Develop and lead retail pricing strategy for regular everyday prices, including price architecture, price attributes, category guardrails, and business rules that guide consistent pricing decisions
• Define the strategic principles and decision frameworks that balance customer value, competitive positioning, margin objectives, and enterprise priorities
• Ensure pricing decisions are grounded in customer behavior, financial performance, market dynamics, and business strategy
Cross-Functional Business Integration
• Partner with merchandising and promotional leaders to align regular pricing strategies with category objectives, promotional activities, and marketing priorities
• Translate pricing strategy into clear priorities, tradeoffs, and decision criteria for cross-functional teams
• Communicate pricing insights, market trends, customer behavior, and competitive dynamics to stakeholders in ways that inform strategic business decisions
Analytics, Technology, and AI-Enabled Decision Support
• Deliver pricing analytics, modeling, and scenario evaluation that identify profitable growth opportunities and improve pricing performance
• Advance the use of data, optimization tools, and AI-enabled decision support to improve the quality, speed, and consistency of pricing decisions
• Identify where current tools, data, or analytical processes limit pricing effectiveness, and help shape priorities for capability enhancement and modernization
• Facilitate initiatives to assess pricing performance metrics, evaluate pricing effectiveness, and make data-driven recommendations for improvement
Pricing Execution, Governance, and Compliance
• Develop pricing processes, protocols, policies, and guidelines that ensure disciplined execution across stores and digital channels
• Establish governance and decision guardrails that create consistency while enabling effective category-level flexibility where appropriate
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and maintain frameworks that support pricing integrity, transparency, and operational consistency
Leadership and Team Development
• Lead a high-performing pricing organization of 25 colleagues, providing direction, coaching, and development to strengthen capability, engagement, and performance
• Build strong pricing leadership bench strength through succession planning, talent development, and clear performance expectations
• Foster a culture of strategic thinking, analytical rigor, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the pricing team
Required Qualifications:
• 15+ years of experience in retail merchandising, pricing strategy, promotions, marketing, product, technology, or related leadership roles
• 10+ years of leadership experience, including building high-performing teams, succession planning, and developing strong leaders
• Demonstrated success defining pricing strategy and translating it into business rules, decision frameworks, and measurable business outcomes
• Strong analytical, financial, and strategic problem-solving skills
• Exceptional communication, executive storytelling, and stakeholder management skills
• Proven ability to lead through ambiguity and drive change in a complex, highly matrixed organization
• Experience using advanced analytics, optimization, and modern decision-support capabilities to improve pricing effectiveness
• Strong collaboration and cross-functional influence skills
• Track record of driving disciplined execution and operational delivery at scale
Preferred Qualifications:
