Manager, UNIX and middleware Administrator

Job Purpose:

Lead a team of UNIX/Linux, middleware, and database administrators, who collaborate with other IT teams to deliver technical change, oversee, maintain and trouble-shoot forthe smooth operation of UNIX, Linux, middleware and database systems  which are critical foundation stones supporting the bank's business application.

Responsibilities: 

Leadership & Oversight:
•    Possess strong technical and communication skills in problem analysis, resource planning and infrastructure architecture design.
•    
•    Be responsible and collaborative with other support teams and application development teams.
•    Ensure stable, secure, resilient and efficient operations across UNIX, linux, middleware and database systems.
•    Assist in annual budget planning for infrastructure and services.

Database Administration:
•    Understand features of enterprise databases such as Oracle RAC, DB2 LUW Cluster/PureScale, MSSQL.
•    Advise DBA subordinates in database provisioning, configuration, performance tuning, and ongoing maintenance.
•    Experienced in designing and implementing backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and business continuity.

UNIX/Linux System Administration:
•    Solid experience in UNIX/Linux servers, including AIX, Solaris, and Red Hat system administration
•    Understand the OS architecture, advise and oversee server provisioning, configuration, and performance optimization performed by Linux/UNIX support subordinates.

System Monitoring & Capacity Planning
•    Familiarity with various solutions for system monitoring integration.
•    Prepare annual capacity planning reports, including system utilization trends and growth projections.

Governance & Reporting
•    Strong documentation skills for audit and compliance purposes.
•    Experience conducting Security Acceptance Testing (SAT) and OS account reviews on a semi-annual basis.
•    Experienced in designing and delivering system performance reports for managed servers and instances.
•    Skilled in automating execution and oversight on routine operational tasks to ensure timely completion.

Disaster Recovery & Resilience
•    Design, co-ordinate the setup, testing and execution of system backup jobs to ensure data protection and recoverability.
•    Skilled in preparing and maintaining disaster recovery failover procedures.
•    Co-ordinate with other IT teams to support DR systems activation and operation during annual drills.

Incident & Problem Management
•    Work with incident & problem management team for issue detection, resolution, root-cause analysis, correction and prevention.

Project & Change Management
•    Co-ordinate infrastructure changes related to infrastructure or application enhancements.
•    Liaise with vendors for procurement, installation, maintenance and support of responsible hardware and software.


Requirements:

Education and Qualifications:
•    Bachelor's degree in Computer Science / Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
•    Preferrable with Technical Certifications such as IBM Certified System Administrator Oracle Certified Professional, Redhat Certfied System Administrator is preferred.
•    Candidates with formal training / certifications in AIX, Solaris, RedHat Linux, DB2, Oracle, WebSphere administration will also be considered.
Work Experience:
•    8+ years of experience as a UNIX/Linux Administrator and/or Database Administrator or in a similar focused role
•    5+ years of experience of technical support team lead position

Technical Skills:
•    Hands-on experience in AIX, Solaris, Redhat linux administration, and database administration, including Oracle RAC, DB2, MSSQL
•    Proven experience in managing UNIX backup and recovery strategies, including disaster recovery planning and execution.
•    Familiar with End-of-Support (EOS) system upgrades and lifecycle management.
•    Solid understanding of audit and compliance requirements, including documentation, SAT, and user access reviews.
•    Proficient in generating system performance and capacity planning reports.
•    Experience coordinating infrastructure changes and working with vendors for database-related hardware and software. Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
