ERISA Associate (Pittsburgh, PA or Minneapolis, MN)

Position Overview

A leading law firm is seeking an experienced ERISA Associate to join its corporate practice in either Pittsburgh or Minneapolis. The ideal candidate will have 3–6 years of broad-based employee benefits experience, including compliance counseling, document drafting, and employee benefits matters related to mergers and acquisitions.

Candidates should have experience with qualified retirement plans, including multiemployer and defined benefit plans, as well as health and welfare plans, with particular depth in Affordable Care Act (ACA) compliance and controversy matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Advise clients on employee benefits compliance, regulatory requirements, and plan administration.

• Draft, review, and negotiate employee benefits plan documents and related agreements.

• Support employee benefits due diligence and related matters in mergers and acquisitions.

• Advise on qualified retirement plans, including multiemployer and defined benefit plans.

• Counsel clients on health and welfare plans, including ACA compliance and controversy.

• Assist with executive compensation arrangements and employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs), as applicable.

• Handle benefits-related regulatory matters involving the Department of Labor (DOL) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), as applicable.

• Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda and other legal documents.

• Collaborate with corporate and other practice group attorneys to provide effective legal solutions.

Required Qualifications

• 3–6 years of experience in ERISA and employee benefits law.

• Broad-based experience in employee benefits compliance counseling, drafting, and mergers and acquisitions.

• Experience with qualified retirement plans, including multiemployer and defined benefit plans.

• Experience with health and welfare plans, including ACA compliance and controversy.

• Admission to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.

• Strong academic credentials.

• Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with executive compensation arrangements.

• Experience with employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs).

• Experience handling benefits-related controversy matters before the DOL and IRS.

Compensation

The anticipated annual salary range is$205,000–$235,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
