About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior QMS Engineer to lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Quality Management System (QMS) requirements supporting Altera's automotive business, while providing quality system support for Aerospace, Defense, Government (ADG), and other regulated market initiatives.

This senior role is focused on automotive quality requirements, including AIAG core tools, FMEA methodology, calibration and measurement systems, manufacturing and final test compliance, and cross-functional quality execution. The successful candidate will serve as a key QMS subject-matter expert, translating applicable customer, regulatory, and industry requirements into practical QMS processes and operational controls.

Based in Penang, the role will collaborate closely with teams in San Jose and across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, and Supply Chain functions to ensure automotive quality requirements are effectively deployed, maintained, and continuously improved. The position will also support the implementation and sustainment of quality requirements for ADG and other strategic business initiatives across the Asia region.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the QMS subject-matter expert for automotive quality requirements, assessing and enhancing Altera's QMS framework to meet applicable automotive standards, customer-specific requirements, and industry expectations.
• Lead the deployment, institutionalization, and ongoing effectiveness of applicable automotive standards and methodologies, including IATF 16949, AEC-Q100, AIAG Core Tools, and VDA practices.
• Establish and maintain scalable processes, governance, and objective evidence for FMEA, APQP, PPAP, MSA, SPC, Control Plans, calibration, and measurement-system compliance, as applicable to Altera's business model.
• Translate automotive requirements into practical procedures, workflows, templates, training, and operational controls, ensuring effective deployment across product development, qualification, manufacturing, test, supplier-management, and quality processes.
• Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Product Engineering, Test Engineering, Supply Chain, and Quality teams to embed automotive requirements and strengthen production and process controls across internal operations and external providers, including foundries and OSATs.
• Support certification, customer, and conformance-readiness activities through gap assessments, internal audits, corrective actions, evidence preparation, and external assessments, driving identified gaps to closure.
• Provide quality system support for ADG and other regulated-market initiatives, including deployment of applicable aerospace, defense, government, customer, calibration, and measurement-system requirements into the QMS and operational processes.
• Serve as a senior technical mentor and resource for automotive quality systems, AIAG methodologies, calibration practices, measurement systems, and manufacturing compliance.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Electronics, or a related technical discipline.
• 10+ years of relevant experience in Quality Management Systems, automotive quality, manufacturing quality or related fields in semiconductor field.
• Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 automotive quality-management principles.
• Working knowledge of AIAG Core Tools, including APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA and Control Plans.
• Experience with calibration, measurement equipment, measurement traceability and out-of-tolerance management.
• Experience supporting manufacturing, production, test or laboratory quality systems.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret industry/customer requirements and translate them into executable organizational processes.
• Strong cross-functional leadership and influencing skills, particularly in a matrixed organization.
• Experience working with geographically distributed teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with a fabless semiconductor business model, including foundry, OSAT and external manufacturing interfaces.
• Working knowledge of ISO 26262 Functional Safety and AEC-Q100.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience implementing and facilitating FMEA
• Practical experience with the AIAG/VDA FMEA methodology, ISO/IEC 17025, calibration traceability or laboratory/measurement-system requirements.
• Experience with MSA, Gauge R&R, SPC, process capability and measurement-system controls.
• Exposure to AS9100, aerospace/defense quality requirements, ESD control and high-reliability manufacturing environments
• Familiarity and development experience of tools such as PLM, JIRA, JAMA,  

Six Sigma certification is a plus
