Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist
Position Summary
Nesco Resource is seeking anEnvironmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to support manufacturing operations by promoting a safe workplace, minimizing operational risks, and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations. This individual will partner with site leadership, operations teams, and EHS professionals to strengthen safety practices, investigate incidents, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
The EHS Specialist will provide technical guidance, support the development and implementation of safety programs, and help ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies and standards. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with employees and leaders across multiple locations and departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with operations leadership and other stakeholders to identify workplace hazards, evaluate risks, and implement effective risk-reduction strategies.
- Assist managers with incident investigations, root cause analysis, and the development and follow-up of corrective and preventive actions.
- Analyze workplace incidents, accidents, and operational failures to identify trends, determine contributing factors, and recommend solutions.
- Ensure incidents and reportable events are documented and submitted to the appropriate regulatory agencies in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Conduct and coordinate EHS inspections at manufacturing facilities, document findings, and work with responsible parties to resolve identified concerns.
- Support the use and maintenance of the company's incident management system, including VelocityEHS.
- Review EHS data and performance trends to help leadership make informed decisions regarding workplace safety and operational practices.
- Assist with workers' compensation claims, return-to-work planning, and restricted-duty arrangements in collaboration with appropriate internal stakeholders.
- Support site Safety Committees and encourage employee engagement in workplace safety initiatives.
- Participate in new employee orientation, safety training, qualification tracking, and related onboarding activities.
- Work with Production, Maintenance, and EHS personnel to ensure environmental reporting is completed accurately and on schedule.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external agencies on environmental compliance reporting, permitting, and related requirements.
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS), review new chemicals before they are introduced into the workplace, and coordinate appropriate employee communication and protective measures.
- Prepare routine EHS reports and maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
- Travel between regional company locations as needed to support business and compliance requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
- At least three years of experience in an Environmental, Health & Safety role, or an equivalent combination of education, training, experience, and certifications.
- Experience with environmental compliance reporting and regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of incident investigation and root cause analysis methods, such as 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams, TapRooT, FMEA, or Fault Tree Analysis.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees, management, contractors, and external organizations.
- Ability to coach and mentor leaders and employees, encourage thorough incident investigations, and promote accountability and continuous improvement.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate documentation.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to completing work accurately and on time.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to handle confidential employee and medical-related information with professionalism and discretion.
- Ability to influence decisions and encourage compliance without relying on direct supervisory authority.
- Familiarity with OSHA recordkeeping requirements and basic medical terminology is preferred.
Education and Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related discipline preferred.
- Relevant professional certifications, such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or other recognized EHS credentials, are preferred.
Additional Requirements
- Willingness to participate in company-sponsored continuing education as needed.
- Ability to travel approximately 25β50% between regional company locations, depending on business needs.
