Description:
Role Summary
The Lower Environment Lead is responsible for managing and supporting non production environments (DEV, SIT, UAT, Performance, and Pre Production) for banking applications. The role ensures environment stability, security compliance, controlled access, and availability in alignment with banking regulatory and risk standards.
The position requires strong hands on expertise in Linux system administration and networking, along with experience working under strict change, audit, and security controls typical of banks.
Key Responsibilities
Lower Environment Management (Banking Context)
• Own and manage all lower/non production environments supporting banking applications
• Ensure environments are secure, stable, and production aligned
• Coordinate environment provisioning, refreshes, access, and decommissioning
• Support testing cycles for core banking, payments, channels, and regulatory systems
• Maintain proper environment segregation as per bank risk guidelines
Linux Administration
• Administer and support enterprise Linux platforms (RHEL / Oracle Linux)
• Perform OS hardening, patching, upgrades, and certificate renewals
• Monitor system performance and troubleshoot OS level issues
• Manage users, access controls, services, logs, and filesystem health
• Ensure compliance with bank mandated OS security baselines

• Administer and support enterprise Windows platforms (Windows 2016 and above)
• Perform OS hardening, patching, upgrades, and certificate renewals
• Monitor system performance and troubleshoot OS level issues
• Manage users, access controls, services, logs, and filesystem health
• Ensure compliance with bank mandated OS security baselines
Network & Connectivity Support
• Troubleshoot network and connectivity issues across lower environments
• Support DNS, TCP/IP, routing, VLANs, firewall rules, and load balancers
• Coordinate with network and security teams for:
o Firewall rule approvals
o Port openings
o Access whitelisting
• Ensure secure connectivity between applications, middleware, and databases
Incident, Change & Risk Management
• Act as an escalation point for lower environment incidents
• Participate in incident bridges and drive root cause analysis (RCA)
• Support change deployments aligned with bank Change Management processes
• Ensure minimal risk during releases and testing cycles
• Maintain documentation for audit and compliance reviews
Monitoring, Automation & Stability
• Use enterprise monitoring tools to proactively detect issues
• Automate routine operational tasks using Shell scripting or Python
• Reduce manual errors and improve environment reliability
• Identify recurring issues and implement preventive fixes
Stakeholder & Vendor Coordination
• Act as SPOC for lower environments
• Coordinate with:
o Application teams
o Release management
o Network and security teams
o Vendor support teams
• Provide environment status updates and risk highlights
Required Skills & Experience
Technical
• Strong hands on experience with Linux system administration
• Good understanding of network fundamentals and troubleshooting
• Experience working in banking or regulated environments
• Familiarity with monitoring tools and ITSM systems (ServiceNow, etc.)
• Scripting knowledge (Shell / Bash / Python)

Banking & Compliance
• Exposure to:
o Controlled change management
o Audit driven operations
o Segregation of environments and access control
• Understanding of risk, security, and compliance expectations in banks
Soft Skills
• Good communication and coordination skills
• Ability to work under release pressures and audit timelines
• Ownership mindset and structured problem solving
Preferred Qualifications
• ITIL Foundation (or higher)
• Experience with DR drills, BCP testing, or regulatory testing cycles
• Exposure to cloud or virtualization platforms used in banks
