Librarian Assistant

Role Summary

At The English School, our priority is the learning, safeguarding, and well-being of our community. The Librarian Assistant will support the Librarian in managing the daily operations of the library, ensuring a welcoming, orderly, and inspiring environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

• Catalogue new book additions into the Oliver resources database, including covering and labelling stock.
• Issue and return books for timetabled classes, and assist pupils and teachers in finding suitable topic books and reading materials.
• Supervise student activities in the library during break times.
• Maintain shelf order, conduct regular stock checks, and remove damaged or out-of-date books from the cataloguing system.
• Maintain engaging library displays and assist with administrative routines to cover in the Librarian's absence.

Essential Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree
• Strong IT literacy with proficiency in basic software applications (e.g., Google Suite).
• Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
• Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
• Personable, patient, and warm demeanour who enjoys working directly with children.
• A passion for books and a strong commitment to promoting reading among pupils.

Desirable Qualities

• Knowledge of library management systems (e.g., Oliver) or cataloguing methods such as the Dewey Decimal System.
• Prior experience working within an educational or school setting.
• Familiarity with children’s literature.
• Adaptability, good time management, and creative problem-solving skills.
