Meta is seeking a Principal-level Engineering Product Configuration Manager to lead configuration management strategy and governance across hardware and systems engineering programs within our Product Lifecycle Management organization. In this role, you will define the authoritative framework for product configuration control, engineering change management, and bill of materials governance spanning consumer hardware, data center infrastructure, and emerging technology product lines. You will serve as the organizational expert on configuration integrity from early engineering development through mass production, partnering with hardware engineering, supply chain, commodity management, and manufacturing teams to ensure product definitions are accurate, controlled, and fully traceable across every phase of the product lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Define and own the long-term product configuration management strategy and governance model across multiple concurrent hardware programs, including consumer devices, data center systems, and next-generation technology platforms
- Lead and evolve engineering change management processes at an organizational scale, establishing policies for change request evaluation, impact assessment across engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing domains, and approval workflow governance
- Govern bill of materials accuracy, structure, and integrity across all product lifecycle phases, partnering with mechanical, electrical, systems, and commodity engineering teams to maintain validated and traceable product definitions
- Establish and enforce configuration identification standards, part numbering schemas, revision control practices, and configuration baseline policies across large cross-functional engineering and manufacturing organizations
- Drive configuration audit programs, including functional and physical configuration audits, to verify that product builds conform to approved design documentation, specifications, and regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with commodity management and supply chain teams to assess engineering change impacts on component availability, supplier qualifications, lead times, and inventory disposition strategies
- Identify systemic gaps in configuration control processes across the organization and lead cross-functional initiatives to improve traceability, reduce engineering change cycle time, and increase first-pass build accuracy at scale
- Define PLM tooling strategy and drive cross-functional adoption of configuration management systems, ensuring consistent application of configuration discipline across engineering, sourcing, and manufacturing teams
- Partner with program management and systems engineering leadership to align configuration baselines with program milestones, design freeze gates, and manufacturing readiness reviews across multiple product generations
- Provide organizational-level expertise and guidance on configuration management best practices, influencing engineering and sourcing leadership on process improvements and long-term configuration governance roadmaps

- 12+ years of experience in engineering product configuration management, engineering change management, or product lifecycle management within hardware, consumer electronics, or infrastructure systems development
- Experience establishing and governing bill of materials structures, part numbering systems, and revision control processes across large-scale, multi-disciplinary hardware programs
- Experience leading configuration control boards or engineering change review processes at an organizational level, including cross-functional impact assessment spanning engineering, commodity management, supply chain, and manufacturing
- Experience with PLM systems such as Agile, Windchill, Arena, or equivalent platforms for configuration baseline management, engineering change workflows, and product structure governance
- Experience conducting configuration audits and ensuring product build conformance to approved design documentation across full hardware product lifecycle phases, from development through mass production Experience integrating configuration management processes with manufacturing execution systems and supply chain planning tools to support clear-to-build readiness and commodity sourcing decisions
- Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
- Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
- Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
- Experience managing configuration management programs for data center server hardware, consumer wearables, or other high-complexity technical hardware with rapid iteration cycles and large supplier ecosystems
- Familiarity with IPC-2578, EIA-649, or equivalent configuration management standards applied to commercial hardware or data center infrastructure development
- Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize or redesign configuration management and engineering change workflows, driving measurable efficiency gains or quality improvements at scale
