See what you’re missing. Our employees work on the world’s most advanced software and electronics—from developing world-class autonomous mission management capabilities to advanced data analytics that support warfighters and the intelligence community. Spanning air, land, sea, and space, we develop the technology of tomorrow, delivered today. Drawing strength from our differences, we innovate for the future. And you can, too.  Â
Our flexible work environment gives you the opportunity to change the world without giving up your personal life. We put our customers first, exemplified by our mission: “We Protect Those Who Protect Us®.” Sound like a team you want to be part of? Come build your career with BAE Systems. Â
Our engineers are the lifeblood of our company, and we’re more than 5,000 strong. With robust educational and career-development opportunities, your potential to grow is limitless.Â
The Digital Architecture Team (DAT) is seeking an experienced (Manufacturing) Software Engineering Manager to lead the team responsible for architecting and scaling the manufacturing platform that enables the seamless onboarding of new customers and systems, while ensuring the reliability and performance of global factory deployments. The team designs, implements, and deploys a highly scalable, gRPC microservices platform comprised of data pipelines, schemas, governance controls, databases, transformation workflows, and data-serving capabilities used by internal and external customers.Â
This is a player-coach role. The manager will lead engineers, define the platform's technical vision, collaborate with stakeholders, and remain hands-on in architectural design, CI/CD strategy, and system reliability. Â
Hybrid:Â
Because of the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and/or the requirement to perform work onsite, some efforts may be (mostly) full-time on-site. Work that can be done remotely will allow for a hybrid working environment.Â
Pursuant to a government contract, this position requires U.S. citizenship. Â
Key ResponsibilitiesÂ
Drive the roadmap and delivery of the Manufacturing Platform, creating scalable software services that power factory operations, including those that interact directly with customersÂ
Provide technical leadership and guidance to cross-functional teams, including software development, factory operations, and customer supportÂ
Collaborate with stakeholders to understand customer requirements and develop software solutions that meet those needsÂ
Design, develop, and implement software systems that integrate with factory equipment and manufacturing processesÂ
Lead systemic reliability efforts, utilizing root-cause analysis to evolve the platform and eliminate recurring operational bottlenecks.Â
Define the operational standards and governance for the platform to ensure high availability and scalability across diverse manufacturing environments.Â
Collaborate with engineering, operations, security, and customer stakeholders to define requirements and deliver validated software solutions. Â
Improve production reliability through monitoring, incident response, root-cause analysis, and preventive engineering work. Â
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of data engineers, data analytics engineers, and business intelligence engineers. Â
Required Skills and Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fieldÂ
Minimum 8 years of engineering experience, with a proven track record of building and deploying scalable software platforms within high-mix manufacturing or industrial environments.Â
Strong understanding of factory operations and manufacturing needs and processesÂ
Basic understanding of software development concepts, including programming languages, networking, and version controlÂ
Ability to architect for observability and troubleshoot complex distributed systems to identify and resolve root causes.Â
Strong communication and collaboration skillsÂ
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlinesÂ
Experience leading cross-functional teams and providing technical leadershipÂ
Experience with GitLab, CI/CD pipelines, source control, and software configuration management. Â
Experience conducting code reviews and applying engineering standards that improve code quality and maintainability. Â
Experience planning and delivering complex technical work across multiple teams or over multiple years.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Â
- Clear written and verbal communication.
Ability to work effectively with engineering, operations, security, management, and customers. Â
Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-moving environment. Â
Experience working in Agile or Scrum teams.
Must be able to obtain a U.S. Secret Clearance
Â
Preferred Skills and Education
Experience collaborating with external partners and vendors to implement software solutions and integrate with factory systemsÂ
Experience with RF device manufacturing and testingÂ
Familiarity with Industry 4.0 and digital transformation initiativesÂ
Experience with modern COTS software solutions and integration with factory systemsÂ
Familiarity with MBSE methodologies and best practices, including the ability to apply MBSE principles to complex system developmentÂ
Strong grasp of data collection, management, and analysis, including:Â
Data collection and integration from various sourcesÂ
Data management and storage solutionsÂ
Data analysis and visualization techniquesÂ
Data-driven decision-making and problem-solvingÂ
Experience with Grafana, Loki, Prometheus, and observability metrics and visualization
Experience working with senior management on technical strategy, investment decisions, and delivery tradeoffs.Â
