OPSWAT, a global leader in IT,OT, andICS critical infrastructure cybersecurity, delivers an end-to-end platform that gives public and private sector organizations and enterprises the critical advantage needed to protect their complex networks, secure their devices, and ensure compliance. Over the last 20 years our commitment to innovative technology has earned the trust of more than 1,700 organizations, governments, and institutions globally, solidifying our role in protecting the world’s critical infrastructure and securing our way of life.
The Position
We are looking for an Engineering Manager with the experience to lead a team through a phase of rapid change. This is a hands-on, technically-centric leadership role — not a pure people-management position — with full accountability for the engineering of the MetaDefender Email Gateway Security: architecture, delivery, quality, and the team that builds it. Â
You will have extensive experience of working within and defining an AI-Powered Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). Product Management defines what to ship; you define how to build it. You own the end-to-end delivery of the roadmap Product Management sets, hold the delivery bar, and with the support of the Director of Engineering build a high-performance culture the rest of OPSWAT’s engineering portfolio will look to as a model for AI-native development. You report to the Director of Engineering and lead a team in Hungary. This is a majority office-based role, located at our VeszprĂ©m office.Â
The Product: MetaDefender Email Gateway SecurityÂ
MetaDefender Email Gateway Security is OPSWAT’s on-premises email security solution, trusted by governments and critical infrastructure operators to stop file-borne and email-borne threats before they reach the inbox. It is deployed worldwide to protect critical infrastructure from email borne threats before they reach end-users’ inboxes. Using the full suite of OPSWAT technologies, Email Gateway Security embodies our promise to provide consistent protection against file-based threats that a detection first strategy cannot.Â
This role will manage a team in Hungary responsible for the product and collaborate with teams developing other email security products at our Romanian office and worldwide.Â
What You Will be Doing
- Lead as an AI-first effort:make AI agents a first-class part of how the team works — orchestrating agents to create specs, generate code and tests, verify results, and run reviews — while ensuring humans own and validate every line that ships. Treat automation and intelligence as the default, not the exception.Â
- Be hands-on:remain directly in the codebase —writing and reviewing critical code, prototyping, andhelping the team unblock hard technical problems. You leadnotjust bydelegating but alsobydoing.Â
- Ownday-to-day delivery of the roadmap:take full ownership of delivering the product roadmap set by Product Management —helpingturning the “what to ship” into the “how to build,” and owning execution sequencing, technical risk, quality, security, and release acrossEmail Gateway Security.Â
- Build and lead a high-performance team:Assist the Director of Engineering torecruit, develop, and retain top engineersinHungary; create clear career paths and norms for code quality and review; and build a culture where strong engineers want to stay and grow.Â
- Hold a security-first quality bar:ensure thatsecurity related AI risksare mitigated and that humanreviewremains at the heart of the development process.Â
- Raise engineering velocity:continuously improve howyour team works — CI/CD pipelines, AI-assisted development workflows,so the team ships faster and more reliably over time.Â
- Partner cross-functionally:work shoulder-to-shoulder with theDirector of Engineering and the Product Management team, Design, and security leaders — turning the product roadmap (the what) into engineering execution (the how), committing to scope and timelines, and pushing back clearly when trade-offs require it.Â
What We Need from YouÂ
- Full agentic development experience:you have personallyworked in ateam thatruns a full agentic, AI-powered SDLC end to end — and have done so in B2B and enterprise environments where compliance, data sensitivity, and assurance requirements are non-negotiable. You can show real work (PRs, commit history, shipped products, or a portfolio) where agentic workflowsdrove delivery — not slideware about AI.Â
- Drive technical ownership and execution: Actively mentor the team to make independent technical decisions andmaintain delivery velocity.Your goal is to build a culture where engineers proactively identify problems and propose solutions without relying on top-down directives.Â
- Proven engineering leadership:5+ years of software engineering experience and 3+ years leading engineering teamsas a team lead or similarthrough complex product delivery at scale. Â
- Deep technical excellence:strong, current software engineering fundamentals — solid command of design patterns, SOLID principles, and modern architecture. You can evaluate AI-assisted code with the same rigor as human-authored code. AI tools amplify strong fundamentals; they do not replace them.Â
- Experience building on-premisesdeployedproducts:The team you will lead works mostly onsoftware deployed onpremise. You will be comfortable with thespecific requirements that this brings. Â
- Quality and test discipline:a high bar fortested, maintainable code;using AIÂ Â Â
It Would be Nice if You Had
- Domain familiarity:understandingof email as a communication channel and the underlying technology and protocols.Appreciation of the different deployment methods for email security and their characteristics.Â
- Cloudservices familiarity:experience of integratingproducts with M365 and/orGoogle Workspace and their associated API ecosystemsÂ
- .NET / C# ecosystem:hands-on or managerial experience with .NET Core / C# — enough to evaluate architectural decisions, review PRs credibly, and hire well for the stack.Â
- AI context-file authoring:experience writing AI context files (e.g., CLAUDE.md, .cursorrules, or equivalent) that encode architecture decisions and forbidden patterns for consistent, safe AI output across a team.Â
- AI in CI/CD pipelines:familiarity running AI agents inside pipelines — auto-fixing lint, generating missing tests, or running safe migrations as pipeline steps — not as experiments, but as how the teamactually works.Â
Why You’ll Love Working HereÂ
- Lead a product trusted by critical infrastructure customers across air-gapped, cross-domain, internet-connected, and native-cloud deployments — the architecture and culture decisions you make now will shape it for years.Â
- Stable, growing international company with an exceptional customer base across 50+ countries.Â
- A mandate to build AI-native engineering practices — and the latitude to do it your way.Â
- Attractive compensation with regular performance assessments and flexibility for the right candidate.Â
