We are seeking top-performing engineering students to join our Capital Projects team supporting a large portfolio of industrial investments ranging in size from under $1M to over $200M and higher.  This highly selective internship provides direct exposure to the full lifecycle of complex capital projects — from Front-End Loading (FEL) and engineering design through construction and commissioning — within a large-scale steel manufacturing operation.  Interns work directly with experienced Project Managers and Construction Managers on active projects inside an operating facility.

Responsibilities
Project Development (FEL)
  • Assist in development of project scopes and technical documentation
  • Participate in multidisciplinary engineering design reviews
  • Review equipment specifications and vendor proposals
  • Support capital cost estimate and schedule development
  • Conduct field walkdowns to validate design assumptions
Project Execution
  • Attend cost, schedule, and contractor coordination meetings
  • Track project progress and assist with change management
  • Perform field observations of equipment installation and construction activities
  • Participate in safety reviews and commissioning readiness activities
  • Support documentation and turnover to operations
  • Interns will work in active operating and construction areas and must wear required PPE.

Candidate Profile
We are looking for high-achieving students who demonstrate:
  • Strong academic performance in an engineering discipline
  • Leadership experience and initiative
  • Analytical rigor and problem-solving capability
  • Professional communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Curiosity about industrial systems and capital project delivery
Development Opportunity
This internship is designed as a pipeline into full-time Project Engineering and Capital Project Management roles. Interns receive direct mentorship, structured feedback, and exposure to senior engineering leadership.

Requirements
  • Candidates must be a full-time student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree.
  • Preferred majors: Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Candidates must be a current student and have completed their sophomore year by June 2027 and be in good academic standing.
  • Be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
  • Expected schedule is on-site 40 hours per week
Pay rate $23-29 p/hr. This base pay rate is a good faith estimate. Based on candidate skills/experience the final offer may be lower/higher.
