Job Title: Engineer, Joint Use (Telecom)
Location: Remote
Pay Range: $30-35 per hour, DOE
Job Type: Full-Time
Position Summary:
We're looking for a detail-oriented Joint Use Engineer to join our team in a long-term role supporting our Texas-based client's FTTH and Ethernet programs. You'll be the quality and coordination backbone of our joint-use process, making sure packages are accurate and complete before they move forward, and helping build the playbook our team works from. This role does not own project management, O-Calc loading analysis, or PE review. You should be ready to hit the ground running. You'll learn our specific processes by shadowing the team, then take full ownership of the work.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
· Review submitted joint-use packages for accuracy and completeness, confirming all poles are accounted for and reconciling against B1s, denials, work prints (WPs), and KMZ files.
· Prepare work print markups for initial submissions and for responses to utility denials.
· Create and update KMZ files to reflect current pole, route, and attachment data.
· Prepare and maintain make-ready (MR) sheets and change requests (CRs).
· Prepare pole loading analysis (PLA) packages and perform high-level checks before handoff to engineering.
· Clearly relay PLA, make-ready, and markup requirements to Fielders, Drafters, and Engineers.
· Prepare and route copper downsizing and removal permits.
· Keep SiteTracker and project tracking current with live status updates so weekly reporting stays accurate.
· Follow up with power utilities, CATV providers, and other attachers on package status, denials, and outstanding items.
· Build and maintain process documentation, including flow charts and illustrated SOPs for markups, permits, and KMZ workflows.
· Flag potential NESC and utility-standard issues for engineering review.
Qualifications & Requirements:
· Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in telecom joint use, make-ready, permitting, or OSP (3+ years preferred), with the ability to contribute with minimal ramp-up.
· Ability to read and interpret work prints, pole data, and OSP construction drawings.
· Highly organized, with the ability to track many packages and deadlines at once and keep records current.
· Clear written and verbal communication; able to relay technical requirements to field and design staff and to client contacts.
· Comfortable creating and editing KMZ files in Google Earth or similar GIS tools.
· Comfortable working in both Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Drive), since our client works in Google Workspace.
· Available at least 5 hours per day between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time, Monday–Friday, for training and team collaboration.
· Self-directed and quick to pick up new processes; asks questions when needed. Works well as part of a close team.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience with pole loading analysis (PLA) preparation or review; O-Calc familiarity is a plus.
· Experience with SiteTracker, Katapult, IQGeo, Ike, or similar joint-use and project tracking tools.
· Experience with copper downsizing or removal permits.
· Working knowledge of the NESC and joint-use/pole-attachment practices.
· Familiarity with CAD applications (MicroStation and/or AutoCAD).
Physical Requirements:
· Alternate sitting and standing at will (sit/stand desk).
· Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
· Requires viewing a computer screen for long periods of time.
· May lift or carry small parcels, packages, and other items.
