Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a DevOps Engineer to define and advance secure, reliable, scalable, and automated platforms supporting mission-critical products.Â
This role combines Linux systems engineering, software packaging and distribution, AWS architecture, platform engineering, infrastructure automation, CI/CD, security, networking, and production support. This role provides technical leadership across teams while remaining hands-on in solving complex technical and operational challenges.Â
Â
Key ResponsibilitiesÂ
Cloud, Infrastructure, and NetworkingÂ
- Manage and secure highly available, scalable, and cost-efficient AWS platforms.Â
- Design and govern VPCs, subnets, routing, Transit Gateway, VPC endpoints, DNS, VPN, Direct Connect, and hybrid connectivity.Â
- Design firewall and traffic-control solutions using AWS Network Firewall, security groups, network ACLs, and related technologies.Â
- Build reusable Terraform modules and automated provisioning workflows for multi-account and multi-environment deployments.Â
- Establish standards for Terraform state management, testing, code review, drift detection, policy enforcement, and controlled changes.Â
- Architect and operate enterprise CI/CD platforms using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and related tools.Â
- Automate Jenkins jobs, shared libraries, pipeline templates, build workflows, release gates, and deployment processes.Â
- Automate software packaging, validation, artifact publishing, promotion, and deployment.Â
- Build, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux software packages, with particular emphasis on Debian-based package formats and distributions.Â
- Develop and maintain package bundling, installation, upgrade, rollback, dependency management, and software distribution workflows.Â
- Use configuration management and infrastructure automation tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet to automate system configuration, software installation, and environment management.Â
- Use Git and CI/CD tools to build, test, validate, package, and release software reliably.Â
- Lead Linux platform engineering across on-premise and cloud environments, with strong hands-on experience in Debian and Debian-derived distributions such as Ubuntu.Â
- Apply strong knowledge of Linux internals, system services, process management, permissions, networking, storage, file systems, package management, and dependency management.Â
- Define containerization and orchestration strategies using Docker, Kubernetes, and Amazon EKS.Â
- Improve reliability through observability, monitoring, alerting, capacity planning, resilience engineering, and automation.Â
- Establish security standards for IAM, encryption, secrets management, vulnerability management, logging, compliance, and least privilege.Â
- Mentor engineers through coaching, documentation, design reviews, and knowledge sharing.Â
Â
Required ExperienceÂ
- 6-10+ years of experience in Linux Systems Engineering, DevOps, Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, AWS, or a related technical role.Â
- Strong hands-on Linux systems engineering and administration experience, particularly with Debian and Debian-derived distributions such as Ubuntu.Â
- Deep understanding of Linux internals, system services, process management, permissions, networking, storage, file systems, troubleshooting, and system configuration.Â
- Hands-on experience with Linux software packaging and package bundling, including building, maintaining, troubleshooting, and distributing Debian (.deb) packages.Â
- Strong understanding of Debian package management and dependency management, including APT and dpkg.Â
- Experience with configuration management and automation tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.Â
- Proven experience architecting and operating enterprise AWS platforms.Â
- Strong expertise in Terraform, Infrastructure as Code, AWS networking, security, firewalls, and hybrid connectivity.Â
- Experience designing and automating Jenkins and GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines, builds, packaging, and deployments.Â
- Experience with Git, Docker, Kubernetes, and container platforms.Â
- Experience with scripting languages such as Bash or Python for troubleshooting and automation.Â
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills across Linux systems, infrastructure, networking, and software deployments.Â
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, manage production incidents, communicate effectively, and mentor engineers.Â
