WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Safely operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot Energy Center equipment and utility systems supporting continuous site operations.
- Perform hands-on mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial equipment including boilers, chillers, refrigeration equipment, air compressors, cooling towers, pumps, motors, valves, piping systems, HVAC equipment, and associated utility equipment.
- Operate boilers and associated steam systems in accordance with applicable licensing requirements, site procedures, and established operating parameters.
- Operate and monitor industrial refrigeration and chilled-water systems and respond to equipment alarms, abnormal conditions, and system performance issues.
- Perform routine equipment inspections and operating rounds to identify abnormal conditions, deterioration, leaks, vibration, or other indications of developing equipment problems.
- Diagnose mechanical and utility system failures, determine appropriate corrective actions, and perform repairs or coordinate specialized support when required.
- Conduct required testing and monitoring of boiler, steam, cooling, refrigeration, and water treatment systems and make appropriate operating adjustments.
- Respond to equipment failures and utility interruptions and take appropriate action to safely restore service and minimize downtime or impact to site operations.
- Prioritize maintenance and operational work based on safety, equipment condition, utility reliability, customer impact, and site needs.
- Execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities and identify additional maintenance needs based on equipment condition and operating performance.
- Initiate and coordinate repairs from identification through completion, including determining repair requirements, identifying parts and materials, obtaining outside services when needed, and verifying successful return to service.
- Work directly with contractors, vendors, engineering, facilities, and other maintenance personnel during repairs, inspections, equipment upgrades, shutdowns, and improvement projects.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, maintainability, safety, and operating efficiency and participate in implementing improvements.
- Maintain accurate operating logs, maintenance records, work orders, inspection documentation, and required regulatory records.
- Communicate equipment condition, outstanding maintenance issues, operating limitations, and work priorities during shift turnover and with appropriate site personnel.
- Follow established procedures for equipment startup, shutdown, isolation, lockout/tagout, return to service, and emergency response.
- Maintain a safe and orderly work environment and perform all work in accordance with applicable safety, environmental, regulatory, and site requirements.
- Work independently and as part of a team, applying sound mechanical judgment and problem-solving skills in a continuous-operation industrial environment.
- Provide overtime, call-in, weekend, holiday, and alternate-shift coverage as required to support Energy Center operations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
Required:
- High School Diploma / GED
- State of Ohio boiler operator license for the assigned Energy Center responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience as an industrial mechanic, maintenance technician, utilities technician, stationary engineer, or similar hands-on mechanical role.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain, and repair industrial equipment.
- Experience working with industrial mechanical systems such as pumps, motors, bearings, valves, piping, heat exchangers, compressors, boilers, HVAC equipment, or refrigeration equipment.
- Ability to perform preventive and corrective maintenance and safely return equipment to service.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, equipment documentation, operating procedures, drawings, and mechanical schematics.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize work while maintaining focus on safety, equipment reliability, and continuity of critical utility services.
- Ability to work independently and make sound operational and maintenance decisions within established procedures and qualifications.
- Ability to communicate effectively with maintenance personnel, operations, engineering, contractors, vendors, and site customers.
- Ability to work assigned shifts and provide overtime, call-in, weekend, holiday, and alternate-shift coverage as business needs require.
