Role Title: Endpoint Migration Subject Matter Expert - Quest ODM, Entra ID & Intune
Location: USA, Must travel to Troy, MI (USA) and/or Dublin, IR (Irland) - Must have passport and/or VISA if applicable to travel
Role Overview
The Endpoint Migration Subject Matter Expert will provide technical leadership for the Windows endpoint migration program. The role owns the detailed migration approach across Quest On Demand Migration (ODM), Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot, device identity, policy transition, and endpoint validation. The resource will guide engineering teams, resolve systemic issues, maintain technical standards, and provide evidence-based recommendations for pilot and production-wave readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the subject matter expert for approved Hybrid AD/Entra and Entra-only endpoint-migration patterns.
Provide expert guidance and hands-on support for Quest ODM design and configuration across Directory Sync, identity and device matching, Device Agent, migration profiles, network profiles, ReACL, migration waves, cutover, validation, and rollback.
Define and maintain technical entry, exit, success, hard-stop, exception, and rollback criteria for pilots and production waves.
Provide technical direction for Active Directory joins, target OU placement, Entra registration or Hybrid Join, Intune enrollment, Autopilot, Windows profiles, GPO and Intune policy transition, certificates, and endpoint security.
Perform advanced root-cause analysis for systemic migration failures and support coordinated remediation across endpoint, identity, network, PKI/NAC, security, application, and Quest teams.
Review migration scripts, automation, profiles, configuration changes, and runbook updates before controlled use.
Provide technical guidance to B2 engineers and L1/L2 teams, recommend escalation thresholds, and ensure repeatable fixes are incorporated into KBAs and operating procedures.
Assess live-workstation testing evidence and provide technical readiness recommendations to the program and command center.
Ensure technical evidence, configuration baselines, issue records, decisions, exceptions, and validation results are complete and traceable.
Required Technical Skills
Architecture & Migration: Enterprise Windows endpoint migration; migration-pattern design; pilot and wave readiness; rollback and exception design
Quest ODM: ODMAD; Directory Sync; matching; Device Agent; migration/network/ReACL profiles; waves; cutover; job analysis
Microsoft Platform: Active Directory; Entra ID; Intune; Hybrid Entra Join; Entra-only devices; Windows Autopilot
Endpoint Engineering: Windows 10/11; PowerShell; GPO and Intune policy; profiles; enrollment; compliance; Windows Hello; BitLocker
Dependencies: DNS; PKI/certificates; NAC/Client; VPN; Conditional Access; endpoint security; application and network dependencies
Experience & Professional Capabilities
Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, or providing expert support for enterprise Windows endpoint migration solutions.
Deep practical knowledge of Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Intune, and Windows device identity.
Hands-on ability to diagnose complex failures across identity, endpoint management, policy, certificates, authentication, network access, and user profiles.
Experience designing controlled pilots, migration waves, technical acceptance criteria, rollback gates, and hypercare processes.
Ability to turn technical findings into clear decisions, remediation plans, runbook changes, and operational guidance.
Ability to facilitate technical working sessions and coordinate action across engineering teams and third-party specialists.
Strong written and verbal communication suitable for technical teams, program leadership, command centers, and client stakeholders.
Quest ODM experience is strongly preferred; comparable endpoint-migration leadership experience may be considered when paired with strong Microsoft endpoint expertise.
Leadership & Role Boundaries
The resource serves as the endpoint migration Subject Matter Expert and is expected to provide authoritative technical guidance, advanced troubleshooting, engineering assurance, and readiness recommendations. The role does not replace program governance, business approval, change authorization, architecture authority, or tower ownership. Final go/no-go and design decisions remain with the approved governance structure, while the C1 provides the technical evidence and recommendations supporting those decisions.
Expected Outcomes
An approved, repeatable and supportable endpoint-migration design across the required device patterns.
Validated Quest ODM configuration baselines, scripts, profiles, runbooks, and technical controls.
Evidence-based pilot and production-wave readiness recommendations.
Rapid isolation and remediation of systemic endpoint-migration issues.
Consistent technical execution across engineering, L1/L2 support, command-center, and hypercare teams.
Complete validation across AD, Entra ID, Intune, policy, certificates, endpoint security, connectivity, profiles, and critical applications.
Clear exception, rollback, and escalation paths that protect business continuity and user access.
Improved migration repeatability through current KBAs, standards, lessons learned, and operational documentation.
Working Relationships
Provides expert technical guidance to B2 endpoint migration consultants and supports L1/L2 execution teams.
Works with the Program Lead, Command Center, IAM/AD, Intune/EUC, Network, PKI/NAC, Security, Service Desk, application teams, and Quest support.
Escalates design decisions, unresolved cross-tower dependencies, and material production risks through the approved governance model.
