A major technology and entertainment organization is bringing on a contract HR Employee Services Generalist to provide parental leave coverage on a team that keeps day-to-day HR operations running smoothly for a large Engineering client group. The work sits on the more transactional and operational side of HR, with a strong focus on accuracy, responsiveness, and a great employee experience. The role also overlaps with annual open enrollment, making hands-on benefits knowledge a real priority.
The ideal candidate is an HR generalist who is comfortable owning a steady volume of transactional work, from I-9 processing and unemployment claims to fielding benefits questions and hosting open enrollment office hours. You work well alongside a peer generalist, communicate clearly with employees at all levels, and bring enough benefits fluency to confidently answer questions in a live setting without needing to escalate every inquiry.
Key Responsibilities
1. Process I-9 verifications and maintain accurate employee records in compliance with federal requirements
2. Respond to employee inquiries on benefits, payroll basics, and HR policies, resolving straightforward questions at first contact and escalating complex cases appropriately
3. Manage unemployment claims from intake through response, ensuring timely and accurate submissions
4. Support annual open enrollment by hosting employee office hours, answering benefit plan questions, and guiding employees through the enrollment process
5. Partner with the full-time HR Generalist to coordinate coverage across the Engineering client group and maintain consistent service delivery
6. Assist with key employee lifecycle events including onboarding and offboarding transactions
7. Maintain and update HR documentation, job aids, and process notes to support Tier 2 knowledge management
8. Collaborate with internal teams such as Payroll and Benefits to resolve cross-functional employee issues and keep information current
Required Skills & Experience
• 3 to 4 or more years of experience in HR Operations or a similar generalist role
• Demonstrated experience supporting annual open enrollment, including fielding live employee questions
• Hands-on experience processing I-9s and managing unemployment claims
• Working knowledge of employment and labor laws
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage a consistent volume of transactional HR work
• Comfortable working onsite on a flexible schedule and within commuting distance of Los Gatos, CA
• Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
Preferred Skills
• Experience supporting Engineering or technical client groups
• Familiarity with HR systems used for employee lifecycle transactions
• Relevant HR certification such as PHR or SHRM-CP
