Embedded Software Engineer

PGS Worldwide is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer in Owego, New York for a one-year contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company. This role supports the development of safety-critical avionics mission computer software in a real-time operating system environment. The position focuses on embedded software design, integration, debugging, validation, and certification support across hardware, FPGA, and software interfaces.

Required Skills

• Experience with embedded software development
• Experience designing, developing, testing, and debugging software for safety-critical systems
• Experience developing device drivers, boot loaders, and built-in test libraries
• Proficiency in C
• Experience working in a real-time operating system environment
• Experience integrating software with custom hardware and FPGA in a lab environment
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams on software, FPGA, and hardware interfaces
• Ability to support documentation, error correction, and performance validation
• Ability to participate in certification activities, including requirements and code reviews
• Ability to work with customers, suppliers, application users, and technical support personnel

Preferred Skills

• Experience with LynxOS or LynxElement
• Experience supporting avionics or mission computer software
• Experience working in regulated or safety-critical development environments
• Familiarity with quality and safety compliance standards

What You’ll Do

• Design, develop, test, and debug embedded software for safety-critical avionics mission computers
• Develop device drivers, boot loaders, and built-in test libraries in C
• Target development for the LynxOS or LynxElement real-time operating system environment
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on software, FPGA, and hardware interfaces
• Integrate custom-designed hardware and FPGA with software in a lab environment
• Support documentation, error correction, and performance validation
• Participate in certification-related activities including requirements and code reviews
• Apply appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the software development lifecycle
