Research Technician I – Validation and Formulation Development



Elemental Enzymes is looking for a Research Technician with a fascination for the agricultural sciences and eagerness to be involved in the validation of biological molecules and formulations for improved plant health and nutrition. The primary focus of this position is to assist with controlled environment plant trials and assays for evaluation of efficacy, compatibility, and mode of action for biological molecules, such as enzymes and peptides. The successful candidate will report to a Research Scientist and join a multidisciplinary R&D team with the mission to develop sustainable, biological solutions that change the future of agriculture.

 

Job Description:

  • Execution of plant trials in controlled environments to validate efficacy, test compatibility, and support claims for biological molecules, such as enzymes and peptides.
  • Conduct routine laboratory experiments using a range of microbiological, molecular, biochemical, and plant-based analytical
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records utilizing digital notebook and trial management systems.
  • Support trial evaluation using statistical analysis tools and data presentation templates.
  • Communication of research progress to internal stakeholders.
  • Assist in the development and amendment of study protocols and data collection tools.
  • Help maintain facilities and materials according to the research site Culture of Accountability, Readiness, and Excellence (C.A.R.E) mission.
  • Additional responsibilities may be added at the discretion of management.

 

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, microbiology, biochemistry, plant sciences, or a closely related
  • Proven ability to execute experiments in a laboratory
  • Proficiency in basic computer programs (e.g. Excel spreadsheets) and willingness to learn new systems.
  • Desired: Experience in handling and evaluation of agricultural chemical and biological products
  • Desired: Experience working with plants in a laboratory
  • Proven ability to budget time and manage several distinct projects at
  • Energetic and self-motivated individual able to work in a team environment with an eagerness to develop, learn and adopt new methods.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Extending: Extend self in a direction to complete a
  • Stationary Position: Remaining in one position for sustained periods of
  • Moving: Moving to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to
  • Fine Motor Skills: Using fingers for tasks such as typing, picking, or pinching, rather than full hand
  • Transporting: Moving objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Objects can be up to 45 pounds in weight.
  • Manual Handling: Gripping, grasping, or applying pressure to objects using fingers and
  • Operating: Using tools and equipment including a work computer and other office devices such as printers, calculators, etc.
  • Repetitive motion: Engaging in recurring movements of the wrists, hands, or fingers, such as typing, assembling components or pipetting.
  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Sensory Touch: Assessing the size, shape, texture, or temperature of objects by touch, particularly with
  • Communicating: Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word, including providing detailed or critical instructions clearly, quickly, and Perceiving sound details at normal speaking levels. Alternative methods of communication can be utilized as necessary.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): The worker is required to wear appropriate PPE as necessary for their role, including but not limited to gloves, safety eyewear, lab coats, hearing protections, and/or respiratory protection depending on the work environment and exposure risks.
  • Environmental Exposure: Those with this position must be able to work in Biosafety Level 2 Laboratory where there may be exposure to biological Individuals with immunocompromised systems may be at increased risk in these environments.
