Our Midwest Utility Client is looking for an EHS SME for a 3-6 week assessment. Travel/expenses will be reimbursed.

Must have Utility experience

Primary Focus
The engagement would focus on understanding how the client currently performs work on energized/live systems and identifying opportunities to improve the way work is executed, trained, and managed.
Key areas include:
  • Assessing current work practices and established processes.
  • Understanding how work is actually performed by crews and field personnel on a day-to-day basis.
  • Comparing documented procedures and training requirements with actual field practices.
  • Identifying gaps between what training/procedures require and what is happening in the field.
  • Helping the client understand how those gaps relate to practical work methods and opportunities for improvement.
  • Reviewing how the client's practices compare with approaches used by other utility clients.
  • Understanding applicable technical requirements and regulations.
  • Working directly with the client's teams and crews to understand current practices and challenges.
  • Supporting the development or enhancement of training programs where gaps are identified.
People
The work would involve engagement with:
  • Client leadership and project teams.
  • Field crews and personnel performing the work.
  • Training personnel.
  • Technical/regulatory stakeholders.
  • Other internal teams involved in the established work processes.
A key component will be connecting the people doing the work with the processes and training intended to support that work.
Process
The assessment would examine:
  • Existing processes and procedures.
  • How those processes are implemented in the field.
  • Differences between documented processes and actual practices.
  • Opportunities to standardize or improve practices.
  • How other utility organizations approach similar work.
  • Training programs and their alignment with field execution.
  • Regulatory and technical requirements.
Technology / Data
There may also be a significant data component, although the exact scope has not yet been defined.
Potential areas to explore could include:
  • Data currently collected by the client.
  • How data is used to understand field performance.
  • Information that could help identify process or training gaps.
  • Opportunities to use data to support continuous improvement.
Current Status
  • No client documentation has been provided yet.
  • Discussions to date have been conversations only.
  • The client is currently developing a proposal/approach to determine what they would like from the engagement.
The team expects to engage further with the client around the October–November timeframe once the scope is better defined
