E&C Engineer

Location: Denver, CO

Onsite Flexibility: Hybrid

Contract Details

  • Position Type: Contract
  • Contract Duration: 12 months
  • Pay Rate: $70.00–$80.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Travel Requirements: Hybrid role supporting projects near Mead, Colorado. Local candidates may work a hybrid schedule with onsite presence as needed. Non-local candidates will be considered. Per diem available for candidates out of the area, with an expectation of increased onsite presence during the assignment. Travel support (monthly stipend) may be considered in accordance with project guidelines.

Job Summary

Xcel Energy is seeking anElectrical Engineer to support the installation, construction, and upcoming commissioning activities for two combustion turbine generation projects located near Mead, Colorado. Due to the advanced stage of the projects, this individual must be able to contribute immediately with minimal ramp-up time and serve as a technical lead for electrical engineering matters. The selected candidate will support EPC contractors, project managers, construction teams, inspectors, and engineering stakeholders throughout installation, troubleshooting, RFI resolution, submittal reviews, and commissioning preparation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and resolve electrical RFIs, technical questions, and contractor submittals.
  • Provide electrical engineering oversight during combustion turbine installation activities.
  • Review electrical drawings, specifications, studies, and technical documentation.
  • Support troubleshooting of field installation challenges and design conflicts.
  • Coordinate with EPC contractors, construction managers, inspectors, project controls teams, and internal engineering stakeholders.
  • Ensure construction activities comply with project design requirements and approved specifications.
  • Support project commissioning and startup activities anticipated during the next project phase.
  • Serve as the electrical technical lead for project-related engineering matters.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of RFIs, submittals, technical reviews, and field issue resolution.
  • Ability to work independently and contribute immediately within an active construction environment.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Experience with combustion turbine technology; Siemens turbine experience is also highly transferable.
  • Experience with utility companies, power generation facilities, EPC firms, or engineering design organizations such as Burns & McDonnell, Black & Veatch, Sargent & Lundy, or similar firms.
  • Commissioning and startup experience for generation facilities.
  • Experience with ProjectWise, Bluebeam, Procore, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, and SAP.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Electrical Engineering degree strongly required; ABET-accredited degree preferred).

Required Experience

  • Approximately 7 years of electrical engineering experience; additional consideration may be given to candidates with slightly less experience if they possess highly relevant combustion turbine experience and credentials.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting combustion turbine projects. This is the primary requirement, and candidates must clearly show turbine-related experience on their resume.
  • Experience supporting combustion turbine construction, design engineering, plant electrical systems, EPC contractors, commissioning, startup, or owner's engineer functions.
