Quality Control Engineerposition responsible for implementing Xcel Energy's Quality Assurance / Quality Control program across generating plants (Coal, Gas, Renewables) within the MN region. Ensures that project construction meets established quality standards, safety requirements, code and environmental regulations, and customer expectations. Responsible for monitoring, inspecting, and improving processes to ensure specifications and standards are met and projects are successful.

This role is a Quality Control Engineer responsible for implementing Xcel Energy's quality program across generation (power plant) projects. The resource will support project execution by ensuring proper installation, startup, and commissioning of equipment to prevent rework and warranty issues. Responsibilities include participating in project reviews, inspections, quality plan development, and resolving installation or contractor quality issues.

1. What are the top 3-5 skills and qualifications (technology/application/software, etc.) required?

Engineering degree (Mechanical or Electrical preferred; Civil/Structural acceptable)

Quality control/quality assurance experience or certifications

Experience in power generation or industrial environments

Experience with inspection/testing procedures and identifying construction defects

General tools: Microsoft Office (no specialized software required

2. What non-technical skills are necessary (i.e., such as communication, problem solving, team player)?

Self-motivated

Strong communication

Collaboration/teamwork

Organization and prioritization across multiple projects

3. Ideal candidate background and how many years required?

Preferred: 3–7+ years, but open to more experienced candidates

Background in power plants, utilities, or industrial environments

Engineering + QA/QC experience required

4. Are there any specific companies you like to see on a candidate's resume?

Candidates with utility, power generation, or heavy industrial experience preferred.

5. Are there any certifications that the candidate must possess?

Not strictly required, but highly preferred:

Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)

Lean Six Sigma

Quality auditor certifications

Drafting experience

Welding inspection (CWI)
