Who are you?
Weâre looking for a hands-onIntegrations Engineer to design, support, and evolve the interfaces that connect DrDoctor with NHS and private healthcare systems.
This is amid-level role where youâll be responsible for both delivery and support: building new integrations, monitoring live ones, and making sure everything runs smoothly and reliably. Youâll work in Agile sprints, collaborating closely with product, delivery, and support teams, and will have plenty of opportunities to bring ideas that make our integrations more resilient, automated, and scalable.
Youâll work daily with HL7 and FHIR standards, using JavaScript and SQL for transformations and validation. Experience with at least one integration engine (such as Mirth Connect, Rhapsody, Ensemble, Cloverleaf, or similar) is essential.
Â
OK, thatâs me, but who are DrDoctor?
Take a look at our careers page (https://drdoctor.teamtailor.com/) to find out a bit more about our mission, vision, and impact!
But ultimately, we đ the NHS and want to help it work better. We radically transform the delivery of health services to make healthcare work for everyone â for patients, doctors, administrative teams and taxpayers.Â
Â
What would I be doing day to day?
One of the great things about a scale-up is that every day is different and there is always an opportunity to get involved in something outside of your âBAUâ!
However, the key things you could expect would include:
- Design, build and support integrations between DrDoctor and client systems (PAS, EPR, APIs)
- Work with HL7 (ADT, ORU, SIU, MDM, etc.) and FHIR R4 APIs, developing robust transformations and mappings
- Develop message transformations and handling logic using JavaScript
- Participate in Agile sprint planning, define and deliver user stories, and collaborate through retros and demos
- Support live integrations: monitor, troubleshoot, replay messages, and resolve incidents
- Implement automated testing, monitoring, and alerting for integration reliability
- Contribute to our CI/CD pipelines, ensuring smooth deployments and repeatable processes.
- Communicate clearly with clients and internal teams, translating technical detail into language others can understand.
Â
OK, Iâm interested. What experience do I need to have?
We donât expect you to know everything on day one, but youâll already have strong foundations and be eager to grow.
- Proficiency with HL7 and FHIR APIs
- Proficiency with JavaScript for integration/transformation logic
- Hands-on experience with at least one integration engine
- Comfortable working with SQL for investigations and debugging
- Familiar with CI/CD pipelines and modern engineering practices
- Understanding of healthcare integration challenges (identifiers, data mapping, code translations, firewalls, compliance)
- Experience with test automation (e.g. JMeter)
- Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Bonus points for:
- Experience with Mirth Connect.
- Previous work in theNHS or HealthTech space
- Knowledge of PAS/EPR systems (Cerner, EPIC, System-C, Lorenzo, etc.) and their APIs.
- Familiarity with additional standards (DICOM, IHE, CCD/CCDA) or protocols (SOAP, REST, TCP/MLLP, HTTPS, TLS, certificates)
- Exposure to cloud environments (e.g. Microsoft Azure)
- Experience in incident response, monitoring, or resilience engineering
We know from research and experience that candidates may not apply if they donât think they meet 100% of our requirements. If you donât tick all the boxes but feel you would be a good fit, we would still love to hear from you. We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive culture!
Â
