POSITION OVERVIEW
The Logistics Supervisor will oversee and coordinate the activities of hourly employees across multiple axle assembly and logistics operations on the second shift at the Detroit Manufacturing Plant. This position was created to support the addition of a Drop Line second shift and will be responsible for managing a team of up to 30 hourly employees at any given time. The Logistics Supervisor plays a critical role in maintaining shop floor efficiency, ensuring parts availability, and driving performance against key operational metrics in a UAW environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of hourly logistics and assembly employees across multiple axle lines
- Manage hourly Client, including balancing lines and accounting for absenteeism
- Ensure parts availability to support uninterrupted line operations
- Monitor and manage key performance indicators (KPIs), including hours per unit (HPU)
- Oversee overtime management for hourly employees in accordance with UAW guidelines
- Participate in shift kickoff meetings and maintain clear communication across shifts
- Manage axle shipping and receiving dock operations for finished axles and components
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, assembly, maintenance, and supplier management teams
- Implement measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, and efficiency
- Develop and maintain production tracking and quality control systems
- Prepare and maintain production reports and personnel records
- Resolve production or processing issues in coordination with technical and administrative staff
TYPICAL DAY IN THE ROLE
The shift begins with a kickoff meeting to align on priorities, review Client availability, and address any carryover issues from the previous shift. The Logistics Supervisor then manages the shop floor, balancing line staffing to account for absenteeism and ensuring all lines are adequately supplied with parts. Throughout the shift, the supervisor monitors KPIs — includinghours per unit — and works closely with cross-functional partners in operations, assembly, maintenance, and supplier management to resolve any issues that arise. The supervisor also oversees axle shipping and receiving dock activity. Weekend coverage is a regular expectation of this role, either through direct participation or by arranging appropriate coverage.Top 3 must-have's
- 7 to 8 years of relevant supervisory experience, preferably in the automotive industry
- Experience working in a UAW environment
- High School Diploma (minimum requirement), bachelor’s degree or associate degree (preferred)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in business or a related field preferred
• 7 to 8 years of relevant supervisory experience, preferably in the automotive industry
• Experience supervising in a UAW environment
• Strong verbal communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
• Knowledge of production processes, quality control, and manufacturing distribution
• Knowledge of machinery, tools, and equipment maintenance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• SAP experience
• Power BI experience
• Experience managing KPIs through large-scale dashboard tools
• Automotive industry background
