FLSA Status: Full Time -Exempt
Salary:           $47,840

SUMMARY

Arizona Science Center seeks a DOME Program & Content Specialist to help plan, coordinate, and deliver a high-impact, revenue-positive schedule of DOME programs—especially after-hours experiences—while also contributing to creative content development across multiple program types. The Dorrance DOME’s 18-meter, 8K+ LED shared-reality system positions it as a global leader in immersive storytelling and experiential learning.

This role blends calendar planning, cross-department logistics, partner coordination, and program production support with hands-on DOME operations and guest experience responsibilities to ensure programs run smoothly and consistently.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Calendar & Schedule Development

  • Work with the Director and stakeholders to build and maintain the Dorrance DOME programming calendar, including public showtimes, special programs, seasonal offerings, and after-hours events (21+, rentals, member nights, etc.).
  • Work with the Director and internal stakeholders to align program scheduling with audience demand, staffing realities, revenue goals, and Center-wide priorities.
  • Coordinate with external partners and collaborators to confirm technical needs, content readiness, and deliverables.

Internal Communications & Programming Logistics

  • Serve as a primary point of coordination for internal programming logistics, including run-of-show documentation, staffing needs, rehearsals, technical checklists, and day-of timelines.
  • Support clear cross-department communication with Marketing, Events, Engagement, Sales, and Guest Services to ensure operational alignment and excellent guest experience.
  • Maintain shared operational documents (show briefs, cue sheets, event one-pagers, versioning notes, post-event reports).
  • Support other programming as needed with other areas of Arizona Science Center

Creative Content Development Support (Multi-Area)

  • Support the Director and other creative staff in developing new DOME programs across scientific, artistic, and community-focused themes (brainstorming, outlines, scripting support, audience engagement moments, program packaging).
  • Help maintain a pipeline of “constantly changing” offerings to encourage repeat visitation and build a library of DOME productions and program formats.
  • Contribute to new program development that can be licensed, sponsored, or grant-supported, helping build a library of Dorrance DOME productions.

Show Operations & Guest Experience

  • Pilot DOME shows and events as assigned, including start/stop sequences, run-of-show procedures, and microphone-based guest-facing intros/outros as needed.
  • Ensure a positive guest experience: welcoming/settling guests, addressing needs appropriately during programs, and supporting smooth entry/exit flow.
  • Assist with ticket-taking, line management, and accessibility support during peak times or special events.
  • Coordinate with management and technical staff on program blocks, transitions, lighting/audio levels, and show readiness.

Venue Readiness & Event Support

  • Assist with supplies setup and preparation (signage, stanchions, event materials, pre-show readiness).
  • Log, track, and report issues across presentation systems and theater amenities; escalate issues appropriately.
  • Help maintain cleanliness and operability of DOME spaces and report any facility/amenity concerns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WORK SCHEDULE

Non-management full-time role requiring traditional workweek hours (~80%) plus varied hours (~20%—mornings, nights, weekends, holidays) to support after-hours programs, special events, and peak attendance periods.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in museum studies, education, communications, arts administration, event production, or related science field; or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with program scheduling, event coordination, or operations in a public-facing environment (museum, theater, attractions, live events, hospitality).
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to manage multiple stakeholders, deadlines, and details simultaneously.
  • Guest-first mindset; ability to remain calm and professional in busy environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting creative development (script writing and support, program packaging, production coordination) for public programs is a plus.
  • Familiarity with immersive venues, basic show operations, and AV/show-control workflows is a plus.
