The Salvation Army Potomac Division is seeking an experienced and mission-driven Divisional Social Services Director to provide strategic leadership and oversight for Social Services operations across Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
This key leadership role provides the opportunity to shape the direction and effectiveness of Social Services throughout the Division. Working collaboratively with divisional and local leadership, the Director will strengthen programs, foster meaningful partnerships, and help ensure services remain responsive to community needs while advancing the mission and strategic priorities of The Salvation Army.

What You'll Do
- Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of Social Services programs, including shelter operations, emergency and seasonal assistance, Pathway of Hope, and other key initiatives.
- Partner with field and divisional leadership to identify community needs, strengthen existing services, and develop new program opportunities.
- Oversee program quality, outcomes, and compliance, including grants, reporting, data integrity, funding requirements, and program standards.
- Lead and support Social Services teams through supervision, training, operational guidance, and resources that promote effective service delivery.
- Build strategic partnerships and advance divisional priorities by engaging community organizations, government agencies, funders, and other key stakeholders.
Physical Requirements and Working ConditionsÂ
- Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. - Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and time constraints. Duties are usually performed seated. Â Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.).

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOU
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Counseling, Human Services, or a related field.
- At least five years of progressively responsible experience administering Social Services programs, including program development, evaluation, compliance, management, and funding support.
- Strong knowledge of program management, budgeting, grants, compliance, and data analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop staff, manage multiple priorities, and oversee program quality and performance.
- Strong communication, analytical, technical, and relationship-building skills, including proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, reporting, and presentations.
- Ability to work independently and build effective relationships with Salvation Army leadership, employees, community partners, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid state driver’s license.
LSW preferred.
