The role
We are seeking a Distinguished Salesforce Engineer to sustain the growing Salesforce Engineering team and continue to mature the platform to meet evolving business and customer expectations. This is an individual-contributor role for someone who helps shape technical direction, resolves the organisation's hardest architectural problems, and elevates engineering standards across teams. This role reports directly to the Head of Salesforce Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Technical Strategy
- Define and evolve the long-term technical architecture strategy for Salesforce and its integration with enterprise systems.
- Identify and resolve systemic technical risks, platform limitations, and scalability challenges before they impact the business.
- Elevate engineering standards, design principles, and governance frameworks that apply across multiple teams and domains.
- Deep Technical Authority
- Serve as the technical escalation point for the most complex, high-risk, or ambiguous Salesforce architecture decisions.
- Lead architecture of large initiatives spanning multiple clouds (e.g., Core, Service Cloud, Marketing Cloud, Data Cloud) and non-Salesforce systems.
- Evaluate and make build-vs-buy, platform, and vendor decisions with organisation-wide impact.
- Cross-Team Technical Leadership
- Partner with architects, engineering managers, and other Distinguished Engineers to align technical direction across teams.
- Drive adoption of best practices in platform governance, integration patterns, and enterprise data architecture.
- Mentorship & Org-Wide Influence
- Mentor senior and staff-level engineers and architects, raising the technical bar across the organisation.
- Lead or contribute to architecture review boards and design reviews.
Who you are
- Experience & Technical Depth
- Extensive experience in software engineering/architecture, with significant depth in the Salesforce ecosystem (Core Platform, Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Marketing Cloud Engagement/Next, Data Cloud).
- Proven track record architecting large-scale, multi-cloud, or multi-system enterprise solutions, not limited to a single domain or initiative.
- Deep expertise in enterprise integration patterns, event-driven architecture, data modeling, and platform governance at scale.
- Experience evaluating and influencing technical strategy beyond a single team or project, ideally at an organisation-wide level.
- Technical Range
- Strong command of Salesforce architecture (Apex Enterprise Patterns, sharing/security models, platform limits, asynchronous processing)and broader enterprise architecture principles (APIs, microservices, cloud infrastructure, data platforms, MCP) as relevant to your stack.
- Comfortable operating across multiple platforms/technologies, not solely Salesforce-native tooling.
- Leadership & Communication
- Demonstrated ability to set technical direction and influence outcomes across multiple teams without direct authority.
- Experience mentoring senior/staff engineers and architects, and elevating engineering practices org-wide.
- Track record of communicating complex technical strategy clearly to executive leadership and driving alignment amid competing priorities.
- Comfortable acting as a technical tie-breaker on high-stakes, ambiguous, or contested architectural decisions.
- Certifications
- Required: Salesforce Certified Application and System Architect
- Preferred: Additional relevant Salesforce certifications (Service Cloud, Data Cloud, Integration Architect, etc.)
