Overview

 

The Discipline Manager - Water Features is responsible for leading the planning, design, coordination, and delivery of water feature systems across landscape, hospitality, mixed-use, public realm, and large-scale development projects. The role provides technical leadership to multidisciplinary teams, ensuring innovative, sustainable, and operationally efficient water feature solutions that meet client, regulatory, and project requirements. The Discipline Manager oversees design quality, resource management, stakeholder engagement, and project execution from concept through construction and commissioning.

 

Your role

 

  • Lead and manage the water features discipline across multiple projects and design stages.
  • Oversee the design of decorative fountains, interactive water features, waterfalls, ponds, lakes, water walls, and special aquatic systems.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, safety standards, environmental regulations, and client requirements.
  • Coordinate with landscape architects, civil engineers, MEP engineers, structural engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Review and approve design calculations, technical specifications, drawings, reports, and construction documentation.
  • Develop innovative and sustainable water feature solutions that optimize water usage, energy efficiency, and operational performance.
  • Manage discipline resources, budgets, schedules, and project deliverables to ensure timely completion.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to engineers, designers, and project teams.
  • Conduct design reviews, value engineering exercises, and risk assessments.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, specialist contractors, and manufacturers regarding equipment selection and technical requirements.
  • Support procurement activities through technical evaluations, tender reviews, and contractor assessments.
  • Monitor construction activities and provide technical support during installation, testing, commissioning, and handover phases.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and act as the primary technical authority for water feature-related matters.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, technical innovation, and adoption of best practices within the discipline.

 

About you

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Landscape Architecture, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 10-15 years of experience in water feature design, engineering, and project delivery, including leadership experience.
  • Proven experience delivering complex water feature projects within hospitality, mixed-use, theme park, public realm, landscape, or master-planned developments.
  • Strong technical knowledge of hydraulic systems, pumps, filtration systems, water treatment, piping networks, and control systems.
  • Experience in the design and operation of fountains, lakes, waterfalls, interactive water features, and aquatic systems.
  • Familiarity with international water feature design standards, health and safety regulations, and sustainability requirements.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering and design teams.
  • Proficiency in engineering and design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, BIM platforms, and hydraulic modeling tools.
  • Strong project management, budgeting, scheduling, and resource planning capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, leadership, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex technical challenges throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Professional Engineer (PE), Chartered Engineer (CEng), PMP, or equivalent professional certification is an advantage.
