Director of Engineering, Financials & Grantmaking:

We are seeking a Director of Engineering to lead the global Financials & Grantmaking engineering organization at Blackbaud. This leader develops strong engineering managers, balances modernization with dependable support of the systems of record our customers rely on, uses AI to accelerate delivery and raise quality, and holds the organization to a high bar for technical excellence and operational reliability.

About the team:

Financials & Grantmaking builds Financial Edge NXT, Blackbaud’s cloud fund accounting solution for nonprofits, and Blackbaud Grantmaking, used by foundations and corporate grantmakers to manage the grant lifecycle. This organization comprises approximately 70 engineers across globally distributed teams in the United States and India, including both employees and contractors. Teams plan and deliver on a SAFe cadence. This role collaborates with leaders across Product Management, PMO, and other cross-functional teams to drive successful outcomes. This team plays a critical role in shaping the future of our solutions, balancing innovation through AI-enabled capabilities with the ongoing modernization and evolution of existing products, all while delivering value to our customers.

What you’ll do:

  • Build, mentor, and inspire diverse, high-performing engineering teams and leaders across application development, fostering an inclusive environment where individuals thrive and grow.
  • Cultivate a culture of continuous learning and innovation – leveraging AI to accelerate delivery and improve quality, and encouraging the team to actively experiment with emerging capabilities as they evolve to enhance product capabilities and operational efficiency.
  • Shape and execute technical strategy in close partnership with Product Management, Enterprise Architecture, and other key stakeholders, aligning technology roadmaps with business priorities and adapting to evolving industry practices.
  • Ensure predictable, high-quality delivery by guiding teams to plan with clarity, mitigate risks early, and experiment responsibly, while fostering clear accountability for commitments.
  • Own end-to-end delivery from development through operations, embedding security, reliability, and automation, and serve as the engineering escalation point for production-impacting incidents and key customer events.
  • Build a data-driven culture where metrics inform decisions and shape strategic change.
  • Partner with Security, Compliance, and Internal Audit to meet the control and audit obligations that come with operating a financial system of record.
  • Play a hands-on role in shaping the India site as it scales — helping build the culture, talent, and operating rhythm that will define it for years to come.

What you’ll bring:

  • 15+ years of relevant professional experience, including 10+ years in engineering leadership roles and direct experience managing managers.
  • 7+ years delivering SaaS solutions at scale, with proven expertise in end-to-end delivery from development through operations meeting customer expectations and operational SLAs.
  • Experience leading large, globally distributed engineering organizations, including people managers, and overseeing teams of 40+ engineers and architects.
  • Strong ability to communicate a clear technical vision and influence strategic decisions, bridging complex engineering concepts with business priorities for stakeholders at every level.
  • Demonstrated fluency with AI-driven development tools and practices, and a track record of leading teams through adoption and embedding AI into their workflows.
  • Experience leading teams in SAFe or a comparable agile framework.
  • Experience building accounting, ERP, or financial management systems, with a working understanding of general ledger and subledger design, period close, financial reporting, and the control and audit requirements of a financial system of record. Familiarity with nonprofit fund accounting is a plus.
  • Experience in corporate social responsibility, the nonprofit sector, or with mission-driven organizations preferred.
  • Able to work flexible hours as required by business priorities.
