Director of Quality / Risk

TheDirector of Quality / Risk is responsible for leading and governing the organization'squality improvement, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and risk management programs across all departments.
This role partners with executive leadership, medical staff, and the Board to ensurehigh-quality patient care, regulatory readiness, and continuous performance improvement while minimizing organizational risk and liability.
Reporting Structure
  • Reports To: Administration / Executive Leadership
  • Supervises: Quality Staff and Clinical Educator
Must-Have Requirements
  • Master's degree in Nursing or related healthcare field
  • ActiveRN (Registered Nurse) license (Iowa or eligible)
  • Minimum5+ years of leadership/management experience in:
    • Quality Improvement
    • Risk Management
    • Nursing / Healthcare Operations
Key Responsibilities
Quality / Performance Improvement / Accreditation
  • Lead organization-wideQuality & Performance Improvement programs
  • Serve asPatient Safety Officer
  • Driveregulatory compliance and accreditation readiness (Joint Commission, CMS, etc.)
  • Lead external audits, surveys, and mock inspections
  • Develop and presentquality metrics and performance reports
  • Overseeinfection prevention and control programs
  • Manageincident reporting systems and quality data analytics
  • ConductRoot Cause Analysis (RCA) and performance improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with leadership to improve patient outcomes and care quality
Risk Management
  • Leadenterprise risk management strategy and execution
  • Identify, analyze, and mitigateclinical and operational risks
  • Overseeincident investigations, claims management, and liability exposure
  • Develop and maintainRisk Management Plan and annual reports
  • Ensure compliance withstate, federal, and regulatory requirements
  • Managepatient complaints, grievance handling, and service recovery
  • Support legal processes including claims, litigation, and documentation
  • ConductFMEA, RCA, and Sentinel Event investigations
Leadership & Collaboration
  • Engage withmedical staff, leadership teams, and Board of Directors
  • Lead quality committees and cross-functional initiatives
  • Mentor and develop staff within quality and risk functions
  • Promote a strongculture of safety and continuous improvement
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification inPatient Safety (CPPS) (required within 1 year of hire)
  • CPHQ (Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality) preferred
  • Experience inJoint Commission and CMS regulations
  • Experience in hospital or acute care environment
