Position Summary
The Ivy Group seeks a Director of Marketing who bringsah-ha! strategic insights, takes ownership of a project from the prospect inquiry through project post-mortem, and functions as a trusted partner to clients and the agency’s leadership team. In Ivy’s boutique agency environment, this role is a “player-coach” who actively plans and oversees projects, with a careful eye on quality control, while leading other team members. The ideal candidate is experienced in managing digital campaigns and creating content in a way AI never could, and will happily brainstorm creative concepts on a whiteboard or present brand messaging to a board.
This position reports to the Managing Director and is part of the senior leadership team, contributing to the agency’s development and growth.
This full-time position is in person in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Responsibilities
The Director of Marketing is responsible for managing marketing campaigns, creating strategic deliverables, and guiding the project team’s work.
Strategy and Planning
Develop effective messaging, communication, and advertising strategies in close collaboration with agency and client teams
Draft brand messaging guides, marketing plans, creative briefs, and other strategic deliverables
Scope, draft, and package proposals in response to prospect inquiries
Identify, critically vet, and recommend marketing technologies for more efficient and effective campaigns and agency workflow, e.g., marketing automation, social media management, analytics and reporting, CRM, etc.
Account and Project Management
Ideate, plan, and oversee traditional and digital marketing campaigns
Impeccably manage complex project details, including budget, timeline, deliverables, and resource allocation
Nimbly move from one project to another and skillfully balance tight turnarounds with anticipated needs
Serve as a trusted client partner, communicating clearly and proactively, managing expectations, and capably navigating challenges
Prepare informative, readable reports and critically evaluate campaign performance, gauging impact and recommending pivots as needed
Revise and copyedit deliverables to ensure high quality standards, brand alignment, and technical compliance (within tools such as Data Studio, MailChimp, WordPress, etc.)
Team Leadership
Maintain in-depth knowledge of marketing best practices, social media ad platforms, and Google business products such as Analytics, Ads, Search Console, Tag Manager, etc.
Direct copywriters, designers, campaign managers, and other team members to ensure effective campaigns and deliverables that align with client needs and project parameters
Provide direct supervision to team members as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
Minimum of 5 years of experience creating and managing marketing initiatives
Experience effectively communicating with executive-level leaders and skillfully navigating complex stakeholder dynamics
Ability to tackle complex tasks independently with sound judgment, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence
Technical aptitude and knowledge of paid search, social media platforms, WordPress, email marketing, and other digital marketing channels
Excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills
Mastery of the Microsoft Office suite
Enthusiasm for collaborating with coworkers and clients to deliver the best work possible
Passion for helping communities and purpose-driven brands thrive
Agency, higher education, or director-level experience is a plus!
