About This Role
The Clubhouse Director is a hands-on, collaborative leader who creates an environment where members and staff work side by side to build a strong, welcoming, and recovery-focused Clubhouse community. Grounded in the Clubhouse International Model, the Director champions member choice, meaningful participation, shared responsibility, and opportunities for members to pursue employment, education, wellness, housing, and social goals.
This role is ideal for a leader who can balance mission, relationships, and results. The Director is actively engaged in Clubhouse operations while providing leadership for staff development, membership growth and engagement, community partnerships, fiscal stewardship, program performance, quality improvement, and compliance.
The successful candidate will be a visible and approachable leader who builds strong partnerships with members and staff, develops community and employer relationships, uses data to strengthen program performance, and creates a culture of accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement. The Director represents the Clubhouse within Goodwill and throughout the broader community while ensuring that members remain at the center of the Clubhouse experience.
Essential Responsibilities
Program Leadership and Member Services
- Plan, coordinate, and monitor daily operations in accordance with Clubhouse philosophy and the International Standards for Clubhouse Programs. Ensure members and staff work alongside one another during the work-ordered day and that members have meaningful opportunities to contribute to Clubhouse decisions and activities.
- Work directly alongside members and staff to support members in pursuing employment, education, housing, wellness, and social goals. Promote member autonomy, dignity, choice, and access to community resources and opportunities.
Staff Supervision and Development
- Build and develop a collaborative staff team that embraces the Clubhouse Model and works effectively alongside members. Lead recruitment, onboarding, supervision, coaching, and performance development; establish clear expectations; support staff growth; and maintain effective schedules and coverage. Partner with People & Culture and the SVP to address staffing and performance needs.
- Lead program meetings and ensure follow-through on decisions and assignments. Respond to changing needs with flexibility and sound judgment, provide operational coverage as needed, and perform other related duties assigned.
Member Recruitment and Community Engagement
- Lead strategies to grow and sustain Clubhouse membership and participation through strong referral partnerships, responsive intake and orientation, consistent member outreach, and the use of member feedback to identify and address barriers to engagement.
- Cultivate strategic relationships with Goodwill leadership, funders, monitoring agencies, referral partners, employers, and community organizations to strengthen referral pathways, increase Clubhouse visibility, and expand opportunities for members. Keep the SVP informed of progress, emerging needs, opportunities, and significant concerns.
- Build and sustain an engaged Clubhouse Advisory Board of members and community partners that advances the Clubhouse mission, strengthens community connections, increases visibility, and helps identify resources and opportunities for members.
Fiscal Management
- Provide responsible fiscal oversight of Clubhouse operations, including participation in annual budget development, monitoring expenditures and staffing costs, reviewing financial performance, and addressing budget variances. Maintain required fiscal documentation, provide appropriate financial updates to members and the Advisory Board, and ensure meal program claims and supporting records are accurate and submitted within required timelines.
Performance, Compliance, and Safety
- Monitor enrollment, attendance, average daily participation, member engagement, budget performance, and other required outcomes against approved targets. Review dashboards and reports with staff, identify trends and barriers, and implement improvement plans with clear responsibilities, timelines, and follow-through.
- Ensure accurate and timely entry of attendance, services, member records, and other required information in the electronic health record and designated systems. Verify data quality and submit monthly statistics, program reviews, and other required reports by established deadlines.
- Ensure operations comply with Goodwill policies, applicable funding requirements, and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene scope of services. Conduct routine record and process reviews, prepare for monitoring visits, and complete corrective actions with documented evidence and ongoing monitoring.
- Maintain a safe, respectful environment and ensure staff follow established procedures for emergencies, incident reporting, confidentiality, and member rights. Notify designated leadership promptly, document required follow-up, and address recurring risks within the Director’s role.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in social work, mental health counseling, rehabilitation counseling, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred. A bachelor’s degree with substantial relevant program leadership experience may be considered.
Direct Clubhouse experience is strongly preferred. Candidates with leadership experience in psychiatric rehabilitation, community-based behavioral health, supported employment, or other recovery-oriented programs will also be considered.
