The role connects brand, website, and commercial priorities to coordinated, high-quality execution across creative and graphic design, video, email and marketing automation, paid and digital channels, and marketing project management.
This leader is responsible for brand strategy and stewardship, the website roadmap and governance, and the department's people, operating model, capacity, budget, quality standards, technology, vendors, delivery performance, and channel optimization. The Director partners with Commercialization Managers, Segment Marketing Managers, Commercial and Innovation Strategists, Sales, Business Development, Distribution and Channel Management, R&D, IT, and other internal teams to turn clear strategies and briefs into measurable work.

Brand Strategy and Governance
- Lead the development of a companywide brand strategy that defines how Zymo Research should be understood and differentiated by customers, partners, employees, and other priority audiences.
- Assess the current brand through customer and stakeholder research, competitive analysis, existing-asset review, and evaluation of brand awareness, perception, consistency, and relevance.
- Define or refine the brand purpose, promise, positioning, architecture, personality, narrative, and core messaging framework in alignment with corporate and commercial strategy.
- Translate the approved brand strategy into practical verbal, visual, digital, and customer-experience standards that can be applied consistently across products, segments, regions, and channels.
- Develop the implementation roadmap, governance model, training, tools, templates, and approval processes required to embed the brand across the organization.
- Establish brand-health measures and a repeatable process for monitoring awareness, perception, preference, consistency, and adoption; recommend changes based on evidence.
- Manage brand research, naming, identity, and implementation partners as needed while maintaining internal ownership of the strategy and decisions.
- Balance global brand consistency with legitimate market, channel, regulatory, and cultural requirements.
Website Strategy Management and Optimization
- Own the strategy, roadmap, governance, and overall performance of the company website as Zymo Research's primary digital destination for customers and partners.
- Translate brand strategy, commercial priorities, and customer needs into clear information architecture, navigation, user experiences, content requirements, and conversion journeys.
- Lead day-to-day website management and release planning, including request intake, backlog prioritization, content publishing, quality assurance, change control, and launch coordination.
- Establish content ownership and lifecycle processes that keep product, application, company, educational, and regional content current, accurate, useful, and consistent with approved brand and technical standards.
- Own search-engine optimization, on-site search, web analytics, conversion optimization, and testing; use evidence to improve discoverability, engagement, lead generation, and the online purchasing experience.
- Partner with IT, cybersecurity, Business Intelligence, and system owners on content-management architecture, hosting, integrations, data capture, permissions, privacy and consent, reliability, security, and recovery requirements.
- Maintain standards for accessibility, responsive design, page speed, technical quality, documentation, and release readiness across the website.
- Manage web developers, agencies, and other external partners as needed while maintaining internal ownership of priorities, requirements, quality, and results.
Marketing Services Operating Model
- Establish a single, transparent intake and prioritization process for marketing requests, including required briefs, approval paths, service levels, and escalation rules.
- Maintain a visible portfolio of active work, committed delivery dates, dependencies, risks, and available capacity across the department.
- Translate approved business priorities into realistic scopes, staffing plans, schedules, and production workflows.
- Return incomplete requests for clarification, negotiate scope or timing when capacity is constrained, consolidate duplicative work, and escalate unresolved priority conflicts.
- Create a practical service catalog that clarifies available capabilities, request requirements, expected lead times, and the responsibilities of internal requesters.
- Continuously simplify handoffs, reviews, approvals, and asset management to reduce delays and avoidable rework.
Creative Digital and Channel Execution
- Oversee the coordinated production and deployment of campaign assets across web, email, paid search, paid social, display, video, print, partner and distributor channels, and other approved formats.
- Ensure deliverables accurately reflect the approved brand strategy, positioning, messaging, technical claims, brand standards, audience requirements, and campaign objectives.
- Guide channel planning and execution within approved strategies, including sequencing, audience configuration, asset adaptation, landing-page requirements, testing plans, and launch readiness.
- Maintain high standards for design quality, usability, accessibility, responsive web execution, and the consistency of the customer experience across channels.
- Build reusable templates, modular assets, and production standards that improve throughput without lowering quality.
Marketing Technology and Automation
- Own the operating standards for marketing automation, email deployment, campaign tracking, forms, landing pages, lead-routing coordination, and related marketing technology used by the department.
- Partner with Sales Operations, Business Intelligence, IT, and system owners to maintain reliable integrations, data capture, reporting, permissions, and governance.
- Ensure campaigns use consistent naming, tagging, attribution, testing, quality-assurance, and documentation practices.
- Evaluate tools and automation opportunities based on business need, adoption, integration effort, cost, risk, and measurable productivity improvement.
Performance Management and Improvement
- Define and report a balanced scorecard for service delivery, production quality, capacity, cost, and channel performance.
- Use campaign and channel results to recommend improvements to creative formats, audience execution, media deployment, web experiences, email programs, and production processes.
- Conduct structured post-launch reviews for major initiatives and convert findings into updated standards, training, or workflow changes.
- Work with Business Intelligence and accountable strategy owners to distinguish execution performance from product, offer, audience, or positioning issues.
Budget Vendor and Risk Management
- Develop and manage the department budget, including media, agencies, contractors, software, production, and other external services.
- Select, brief, and manage agencies and vendors; define clear deliverables, commercial terms, performance expectations, and quality standards.
- Balance internal capacity and external support based on required expertise, speed, workload, cost, and strategic importance.
- Maintain appropriate review and approval controls for brand, technical claims, legal requirements, privacy, consent, accessibility, and other applicable standards.
Cross Functional Leadership
- Serve as the primary department leader for internal stakeholders requesting marketing services and provide clear visibility into priorities, tradeoffs, progress, and performance.
- Partner early with strategy owners so creative, technical, channel, data, and production requirements are incorporated into feasible plans and briefs.
- Build productive working relationships across Commercial, R&D, IT, Legal, Quality and Regulatory, Operations, and Finance as required by each initiative.
- Represent Marketing Services in planning, business reviews, launch readiness discussions, and operating forums.
Measures of Success

- Consistent adoption of the brand across priority channels, regions, functions, and customer touchpoints, supported by measurable brand-health baselines and improvement.

- Reliable delivery against agreed scope, quality standards, and committed dates.
- Clear visibility into intake, priorities, owners, backlog, capacity, risks, and expected delivery dates.

- Accurate campaign tracking, timely reporting, documented learning, and evidence-based optimization.
- Effective use of internal talent, external vendors, marketing technology, and budget.
