Federal Advocacy Professional – Government Relations Public Policy (GRPP)

This role serves as a registered federal lobbyist for TIAA and Nuveen, influencing legislative and regulatory policy to improve the environment in which the organization operates. The individual will build and manage relationships with policymakers, congressional staff, and federal regulatory bodies, developing and executing advocacy strategies on TIAA and Nuveen’s federal policy priorities as a member of the Government Relations and Public Policy (GRPP) team.



The ideal candidate brings established relationships in Washington, DC, deep knowledge of the federal legislative and regulatory process, and a track record of effective advocacy on behalf of a financial services organization, trade association, or comparable institution. As a subject matter expert in government relations, this person represents the enterprise credibly in all interactions with government entities, exercising strong judgment and discretion in high-stakes policy conversations.

This role serves as a key conduit between TIAA-Nuveen and federal policymakers, working closely with internal stakeholders across legal, compliance, and business lines to ensure advocacy positions reflect the organization's priorities.


Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop and execute legislative and regulatory advocacy strategy on enterprise wide federal policy priorities, representing the organization in direct, in-person engagement with policymakers, including meetings, hearings, and industry events.
  • Build and maintain constructive relationships with members of Congress, congressional staff, and federal regulatory agency officials to influence public policies that impact the company's operations.
  • Monitor and anticipate emerging federal legislation and rulemaking activity that may affect the organization's business, products, or clients, and advise senior management of potential risks.
  • Counsel leadership on strategic planning efforts to prepare for known and potential legislative/regulatory activities related to the industry, and brief internal stakeholders and senior leadership on relevant policy developments and their business impact.
  • Collaborate with industry advocates, trade associations, and industry committees to build areas of common interest, and support leadership when testifying before congressional committees.
  • Ensure compliance with all laws, regulations, and ethical concerns related to government relations activities, including federal lobbying registration and disclosure requirements.
  • Monitor and communicate key performance metrics and operational challenges to quantify and articulate the business impact of government relations initiatives and issues.

Base Pay Range: $114,000/yr - $163,000/yr

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.  In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
