The Creative Marketing & Strategic Partnerships role will serve as a key bridge between Sony Music Publishing and leading creative partners, connecting their content and storytelling needs with SMP’s world-class songwriters, artists, producers, and repertoire. The role will initially focus on our strategic partnership with Netflix, while also identifying and developing broader opportunities across film, television, advertising, and other media. This person will be a proactive, highly connected creative partner who can anticipate opportunities, bring the right talent and music to the table, and build strategic relationships that drive value for both SMP and our partners.

Initially, this role will have a particular focus on our strategic partnerships.
  • Develop a deep understanding of strategic partners’ creative strategies, upcoming content, and evolving music needs to proactively identify opportunities across film, television, promos, trailers, advertising, and other media.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the SMP roster and continuously stay informed on new signings, emerging talent, and key songwriter, artist, producer, and creative relationships.
  • Communicate partner priorities, briefs, and opportunities clearly and effectively to the A&R team and broader SMP organization.
  • Proactively recommend artists, songwriters, producers, and creative teams who align with specific projects, genres, audiences, and creative objectives.
  • Curate and facilitate playlists, writing sessions, showcases, introductions, studio visits, and other tailored creative experiences designed to connect strategic partners with the right SMP talent.
  • Partner closely with A&R and international teams to identify and deliver the right talent, repertoire, and creative ideas for global content needs.
  • Lead the negotiation and issuance of approvals and quotes for high-level sync opportunities, including trailers, promos, and other strategic media uses.
  • Manage communication and approvals efficiently and diplomatically with writer approval parties, estates, managers, and other stakeholders, ensuring a seamless experience for both partners and SMP clients.
  • Partner effectively across internal SMP divisions and with external partners, building strong relationships through clear, responsive, and solutions-oriented communication.
  • Strategically and competitively price SMP repertoire, leveraging a deep understanding of relevant sync history, market dynamics, usage, and fee structures.
  • Engage directly with SMP artists and songwriters to develop original songs, covers, and other bespoke creative solutions tailored to specific strategic opportunities.
  • Attend showcases, concerts, writing camps, industry events, and other relevant gatherings to identify emerging opportunities and strengthen relationships with SMP songwriters, artists, managers, and the broader creative community.
  • Serve as a trusted, proactive creative partner, anticipating needs, bringing forward compelling opportunities, and connecting partners’ content and storytelling with the strongest possible SMP talent and repertoire.
  • Help identify and develop new strategic partnerships and creative opportunities that can expand SMP’s reach, strengthen existing relationships, and create new avenues for our songwriters and catalog.
  • Lead with a mobility mindset (MILES) and continue to advance DE&I initiatives throughout the organization and within the SMP songwriter community.
