Award-winning legal advocacy organization for abused children seeks experienced child-welfare attorney to lead its Arizona-based pro bono Children’s Law Clinic.

The Center for the Rights of Abused Children seeks an experienced, compassionate, and highly skilled attorney to lead its Arizona-based pro bono Children’s Law Clinic. The Children’s Law Clinic provides legal advice, consultation, and direct representation to children and families involved in Arizona’s foster care system, with a particular focus on protecting children from abuse and helping them reach safe, loving, and permanent homes as quickly as possible. The Clinic represents foster children, foster and kinship caregivers, and biological parents in dependency and related proceedings.

The Director will serve as the senior attorney responsible for the Clinic’s day-to-day legal practice. The Director will supervise and mentor Clinic attorneys, oversee case intake and selection, guide litigation strategy, maintain the quality and consistency of the Clinic’s legal work, and personally handle significant dependency matters. The Director will also help expand the Clinic’s reach throughout Arizona by developing and providing trainings, building relationships with child-welfare professionals and community partners, and conducting outreach to organizations that serve foster children and families.

The successful candidate should enjoy trying cases, solving difficult legal problems, mentoring younger lawyers, working closely with children and families, and building a legal practice known for extraordinary client service and excellent advocacy. We are looking for someone who is comfortable in a courtroom, loves developing other lawyers, who approaches difficult cases creatively, and enjoys building relationships that can help more children and families access the Clinic’s services.

This position is based in Arizona and requires regular presence in the Center’s Phoenix-area office as well as travel to courts, client meetings, home visits, and other locations throughout Arizona. The Center offers flexible scheduling in a foster- and family-friendly work environment.
