Position Title:Â Director, Capital AssetsÂ
Reports To:Â Director of Education

Job Summary:
The Director of Capital Assets oversees facility operations, maintenance, construction projects, and capital asset management. Ensure schools are properly maintained and oversee operations personnel for the departments of maintenance, transportation, and technology.Â
Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, direct, and control operations and maintenance of all facilities to support the schools and capital assets;
- Lead, supervise, and manage a team of employees to ensure daily care and maintenance of capital assets;Â
- Manage operations and activities to ensure regulatory compliance and resources are managed effectively;
- Lead planning and execution of capital projects and monitor capital construction projects;
- Develop and implement procedures on capital assets and projects;
- Develop strategic goals and objectives for improvements such as facilities, grounds, equipment, and improvement plans;
- Liaise with school administrators on facility concerns to ensure support on educational requirements;
- Manage procurement processes, vendor selection and contracts;Â
- Ensure all buildings are maintained in accordance with health and safety codes, board policies and standards, as well as legislative requirements;
- Analyze operational systems and procedures in coordination with supervisors of maintenance and transportation to ensure student safety;
- Develop and maintain health and safety protocols, including school safety plans, fire drills, lockdowns, evacuations, and crisis/emergency plans for all buildings;
- Ensure maintenance and data of records ie: schedules, inspections, and audits, are in compliance with regulations;Â
- Collaborate effectively with supervisors, principals, and parents/guardians in solving bus discipline issues;
- Perform other related duties assigned by the director of education.
Requirements:
Post-secondary education in business, construction, or related fields.
Minimum 5 years of experience in leadership roles, preferably in a school-based environment and capital project management.
Knowledge of Mi’kmaq culture, language, and community dynamics is an asset
Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels.
Strong leadership skills and effective decision-making skills.Â
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace apps (Gmail, Sheets, Docs)
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel as needed.Â
Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization.
