Digital Media Coordinator
Position Summary
The Digital Media Coordinator supports the school’s marketing, communications, and publications efforts by helping maintain a strong, consistent, and engaging presence across digital platforms. Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Brand Strategy, this position works to manage website content, support social media, capture campus stories, and assist with school publications.
This is an ideal opportunity for an early-career communications professional who is creative, organized, collaborative, and excited to tell the story of an independent school community. This is a 12-month, full-time, non-exempt position.
Primary Responsibilities
Website Management
- Maintain and update content across the school website, including text, photos, calendars, announcements, forms, and links.
- Review the website regularly to ensure information is accurate, current, accessible, and consistent with the school’s brand.
- Coordinate with school departments to collect and publish timely website updates.
- Create and update landing pages, news stories, event pages, and website pop-ups.
- Monitor website performance and assist with basic analytics and reporting.
- Identify broken links, outdated content, and opportunities to improve navigation and the user experience.
Social Media Management
- Assist with the daily management of the school’s social media platforms.
- Create, schedule, and publish engaging posts that reflect the school’s mission, values, programs, and community.
- Capture photos and short-form video content at school events, in classrooms, and around campus.
- Develop content for recurring social media features, campaigns, and school announcements.
- Monitor comments, messages, tags, and community engagement, escalating questions when appropriate.
- Maintain a social media content calendar and help ensure consistent coverage across divisions and departments.
- Track performance and prepare basic social media analytics reports.
- Stay informed about platform updates, trends, and best practices.
Content Creation and Brand Support
- Write and edit short-form content for social media, the website, email communications, and digital displays.
- Create simple, on-brand graphics using Canva or similar design platforms.
- Organize and maintain the school’s digital photo, video, and graphic libraries.
- Help ensure consistent use of the school’s logos, colors, fonts, voice, and visual identity.
- Assist with photography and video needs, including coordinating with outside vendors when needed.
- Support storytelling that highlights students, faculty, alumni, athletics, the arts, and campus life.
Publications Support
- Support the Director of Communications with the development of school magazines, newsletters, programs, yearbooks, and other print or digital publications.
- Gather stories, photographs, captions, statistics, and other content from across the school.
- Assist with proofreading, fact-checking, photo identification, and content organization.
- Help manage publication timelines, content submissions, approvals, and production details.
- Coordinate with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and outside vendors to collect needed materials.
General Communications Support
- Assist the Director of Marketing & Brand Strategy with campaigns, events, advertising, email communications, and other departmental priorities.
- Help maintain marketing and communications calendars, project trackers, and content request systems.
- Provide communications coverage for school events, including occasional evening or weekend activities.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, families, Athletics, Alumni, Admissions, and other departments.
- Perform other related duties that support the school’s marketing, communications, and publications goals.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, digital media, public relations, graphic design, or a related field.
- One to three years of relevant experience, including internships, student employment, freelance work, or professional experience.
- Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience managing social media platforms for an organization, school, business, or brand.
- Familiarity with website content management systems.
- Experience with Canva and basic photo or video editing tools.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
- Careful attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to work collaboratively while also managing independent responsibilities.
- Willingness to learn new platforms, tools, and communications practices.
- Experience in a school, nonprofit, or mission-driven organization is preferred but not required.
Preferred Skills
- Photography and short-form video creation.
- Basic graphic design and layout skills.
- Familiarity with email marketing platforms, social media scheduling tools, and analytics.
- Understanding of accessibility and digital content best practices.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud is a plus.
Essential Functions
- Regularly required to walk, including across uneven ground, talk, hear, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds
- Must be able to sit and stand on the floor throughout the day, and bend, kneel, or squat.
- Must be able to operate a computer and have basic knowledge of Google Workspace.
- Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed
- Must be able to utilize oral and written communication skills effectively
