We’re on the hunt for a Principal Data Analyst to join our Business Intelligence team. This position offers hands-on experience with identifying meaningful questions and following those quantitative investigations through generating business recommendations. Location:In Office in Columbia, MO strongly preferred — hybrid; remote considered for the right candidate

Salary: $120,00–$150,000, commensurate with experience

The Role:

The analyst will use an analytic perspective to semi-autonomously drive business research and reporting. This role should be able to identify meaningful questions and follow those quantitative investigations through generating business recommendations.The analyst should be able to apply their intellectual curiosity and quantitative skills to a variety of subtopics within StorageMart. This role will manage questions from conception and carry them all the way through developing analysis and delivering solutions to stakeholders.

What You’ll Do:

• Drive data-driven decision making from a place of quantitative expertise.

• Perform thorough investigation into established business challenges and develop new avenues of investigation. Natural curiosity should motivate the analyst to dive deeper to untangle complex problems.

• Manage end to end ad-hoc data requests from all internal departments; including marketing, acquisitions, sales, and senior leadership.

• Convey complex analytic concepts to a non-technical audience. The ideal candidate should be able to tell the story of the data, not recite statistics.

• For recurring requests, create user-friendly Tableau reporting that intuitively allows for data self-service among users outside the Business Intelligence department.

• Manage relationships with IT and Data Engineering to guide the construction of new data pipelines and the architecture of the Data Mart. This role will be giving input towards ETL functions, not performing them personally.

• Regularly share findings and recommendations in both small groups as well as broader company-wide weekly meetings.

• Manage projects such as A/B tests, which often includes planning the structure of the test, communicating plans to others, analyzing results, and giving recommendations to senior leaders.

• Identify and evaluate new analytics tools, technologies, and methodologies, including AI-assisted analytics capabilities, that could improve the team’s analytical efficiency or measurement accuracy.

What We’re Looking For:

• Bachelor’s degree in data science, operations research, statistics, business analytics, or a related quantitative field preferred. Other quantitative degrees are acceptable when accompanied by demonstrated, hands-on professional or personal analytic project experience.

• 5+ years of experience in a business intelligence, operations research, or statistical analytics role.

• A combination of education and experience may be substituted for the above.

• 5+ years of demonstrated fluency in SQL query writing is a non-negotiable requirement.

• 5+ years of experience with Tableau or similar BI analytics platform.

• Strong data storytelling skills are extremely important. A demonstrated ability to convey findings in plain language to senior leadership.

• Proficient in creating impactful presentations in Powerpoint with a clear call to action.

• Some experience in constructing machine learning models and applying advanced data science techniques.

• Python, R, or other quantitative programming language skills are a plus.

• Excellent interpersonal, project management, and communication skills.

• Experience in self-storage, hotel, airline, real estate, or similar field is a plus but not required.

• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Needed Availability

In office Columbia, MO Monday-Friday 8:00a-5:00p

Physical Requirements:

• Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

• Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

• Visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
