Database Engineer – PostgreSQL (Google Cloud)

• Execute and support database migrations from on-premises VMware environments to Google Cloud.
• Perform technical analysis, migration planning, dependency assessment, and readiness checks.
• Prepare databases and environments for migration, including configuration, capacity, connectivity, and security requirements.
• Execute migration activities, including data replication, cutover, validation, and reconciliation.
• Perform post-migration stabilization, troubleshooting, and issue resolution.
• Operate and administer PostgreSQL databases across hybrid and Google Cloud environments.
• Provide operational support for SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases hosting business-critical applications.
• Perform database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and configuration optimization.
• Monitor database health, performance, availability, storage, and resource utilization.
• Conduct capacity planning and provide recommendations for future growth and workload requirements.
• Design and maintain backup, restore, high-availability, and disaster-recovery solutions.
• Test backup and recovery procedures and participate in disaster-recovery exercises.
• Support database incidents, service requests, changes, releases, and problem management in accordance with ITSM processes.
• Troubleshoot database, connectivity, performance, replication, and application-related issues.
• Collaborate with Cloud Engineering, Security, Platform, Network, and Application teams.
• Coordinate migration activities across distributed teams and stakeholders.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, migration plans, runbooks, operational procedures, and knowledge articles.
• Ensure database configurations and operational practices comply with security, risk, audit, and regulatory requirements.
• Identify opportunities to automate recurring DBA and migration activities using scripting and infrastructure automation.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of database operations, migration processes, monitoring, and support procedures.

• Exp – 10 to 12 Years

• Strong hands-on experience as a Database Engineer, Database Administrator, or equivalent role.
• Proven enterprise-level experience administering and supporting PostgreSQL databases.
• Strong working knowledge of SQL Server, with depth in PostgreSQL or SQL Server and practical knowledge of the other.
• Hands-on experience operating databases on cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud.
• Proven experience migrating databases from on-premises VMware environments to cloud platforms.
• Strong understanding of database migration methodologies, cutover planning, validation, and rollback strategies.
• Solid understanding of high availability, disaster recovery, replication, and business continuity concepts.
• Strong knowledge of backup, restore, and recovery strategies.
• Hands-on experience with database performance troubleshooting and optimization.
• Experience with database monitoring, alerting, capacity management, and availability management.
• Experience supporting production databases in business-critical environments.
• Experience working within regulated environments such as banking, financial services, or other highly controlled industries.
• Understanding of security controls, access management, encryption, vulnerability management, and audit requirements.
• Experience working effectively with distributed, offshore, and cross-functional teams.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.

Nice-to-Have Knowledge and Experience

• Experience with SQL Server, Db2, and Oracle databases.
• Experience migrating Db2, Oracle, or SQL Server workloads to Google Cloud.
• Experience with Google Cloud database services and VM-based database deployments.
• Familiarity with Google Cloud networking, storage, IAM, monitoring, and security services.
• Experience with hybrid cloud architectures and connectivity between on-premises and cloud environments.
• Experience with PostgreSQL replication, clustering, connection pooling, and HA technologies.
• Knowledge of cloud-native database migration and modernization approaches.
• Automation and scripting experience using Python, PowerShell, Bash, SQL, or similar technologies.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code and configuration-management tools.
• Familiarity with database observability, monitoring, logging, and alerting platforms.
• Exposure to security, risk, compliance, audit, and regulatory control frameworks.
• Experience creating migration automation, validation scripts, health checks, and operational tooling.
• Relevant cloud or database certifications are an advantage.
