Job Summary

Fortified Data is seeking a Consultant to join our Professional Services team as a versatile database professional. You will deliver performance tuning, upgrades, migrations, and high availability projects across Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, and cloud database platforms. You will also join Account Executives and senior consultants in client and prospect conversations, helping translate technical needs into the right engagement.

Duties and Essential Job Functions

  • Deliver Professional Services engagements across SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, and Azure SQL, including performance tuning, version upgrades, consolidations, and platform migrations.
  • Implement and test high availability and disaster recovery solutions, including Availability Groups, log shipping, replication, and failover cluster instances.
  • Conduct database health checks and assessments and document findings and recommendations for clients.
  • Migrate databases between on-premises environments and Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud, including platform-as-a-service targets such as Azure SQL Managed Instance and Amazon RDS.
  • Join discovery calls with Account Executives and senior consultants, explain technical options in plain language, and help scope proposed work.
  • Contribute technical content and effort estimates to proposals and statements of work.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues during engagements and bring in senior consultants when an issue calls for it.
  • Build and maintain scripts and documentation that support database builds, schema changes, and task automation.
  • Communicate status, risks, and blockers clearly to clients and the internal project team.
  • Recognize follow-on needs during engagements, including Managed Services fit, and bring them to the account team.

Measures of Success

This role will be evaluated against annual objectives set in partnership with leadership. Representative measures include:

  • Billable utilization against target.
  • Client satisfaction on delivered engagements.
  • Contribution to scoped and closed Professional Services opportunities.
  • Growth in platform breadth and certifications.

Required Experience

  • Four or more years of database administration or database engineering experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and hands-on experience with at least one of PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MySQL.
  • Experience with performance tuning, including indexing, query optimization, and wait analysis.
  • Experience implementing or supporting high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Experience with cloud database services such as Azure SQL, Azure SQL Managed Instance, or Amazon RDS.
  • Scripting experience with T-SQL and PowerShell or a similar language.
  • Experience communicating directly with clients or business stakeholders.

Preferred Experience

  • Consulting, professional services, or managed services experience supporting multiple clients at once.
  • Exposure to Databricks, Snowflake, or Microsoft Fabric.
  • Experience participating in sales conversations, discovery calls, or proposal development.
  • Microsoft, AWS, or PostgreSQL certifications.
  • Familiarity with ITSM and time tracking tools such as Zendesk and Harvest.
