About Your Role
The Pipefitter Foreman leads and supervises field pipefitting crews on industrial and commercial projects. This role combines technical expertise with strong leadership to ensure quality installation, adherence to safety standards, and on-time project delivery. The Foreman interprets complex technical drawings, coordinates with other trades, manages crew resources, and maintains accountability for crew productivity and performance.
What You’ll Do (Job Responsibilities)
- Direct, train, and assign daily tasks to field crews; monitor crew performance and productivity; provide constructive feedback and support professional development; verify crew certifications and qualifications before assigning personnel to tasks.
- Read and interpret complex blueprints, P&IDs, isometric drawings, and project specifications; plan optimal installation sequences and pipe routing layout; coordinate with engineering to resolve field design questions; verify that delivered materials match approved specifications.
- Enforce all job site safety rules and established protocols; identify and address potential hazards immediately; conduct regular safety meetings and toolbox talks; maintain a zero-incident mindset and model safe work practices daily; ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety programs.
- Inspect ongoing and completed work to confirm compliance with industry codes, quality standards, and project design requirements; perform pressure testing and validation; identify defects and ensure timely correction.
- Coordinate with field superintendents, project managers, and other trade foremen to solve field problems, prevent delays, and maintain schedule alignment; provide regular progress updates and escalate issues promptly; coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to manage material and equipment deliveries.
- Train new hires and apprentices on proper use of tools, equipment, and pipefitting methods; mentor crew members to uphold quality and safety standards; provide hands-on instruction and coaching to support skill development.
- Coordinate procurement, delivery, and storage of materials and equipment; manage tool inventory and ensure availability for daily operations; receive and document incoming materials and equipment; maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, labor hours, material usage, safety incidents, and quality inspections; identify conflicts or clarification needs in contract documents; provide timely progress reports to Field Mechanical Supervisor and Project Manager.
- Perform pipefitting tasks including cutting, threading, welding, rigging, and pressure testing as required to meet project schedules or support crew productivity; model skilled tradecraft and maintain hands-on competency.
- Other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need to Get the Job Done:
- 4 to 6+ years of hands-on industrial or commercial pipefitting experience; demonstrated prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Deep working knowledge of pipefitting methods, installation techniques, rigging practices, welding, and pressure testing protocols; ability to read and apply technical specifications; proficiency with digital tools and construction documentation software.
- Valid trade certification or apprenticeship completion; active OSHA safety certifications (OSHA 10 or 30, or equivalent); certified welding credentials preferred; current driver's license required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated problem-solving ability; adaptability and composure under pressure; proven ability to manage diverse personalities and foster a collaborative team environment; organizational and time management capability.
- Ability to work on an active job site, including standing, walking, and navigating site conditions, and to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
