Job Role: Senior Data Engineer
Preferred Location(s): Atlanta, Dallas, Charlotte (Hybrid)
Duration: 3-month contract

Position Summary:
Client is seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer with 8+ years of hands-on experience in database design, data engineering, data warehousing, reporting, and production database support.
The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in designing and maintaining large-scale database systems, building data warehouses and data pipelines, optimizing database performance, and developing enterprise reporting solutions. The candidate should also have experience with cloud data technologies and an interest in learning the financial-services business and understanding how data supports business processes.
Experience in financial services, asset management, ETFs, fund administration, or Eagle platforms is a strong plus.

Key Responsibilities:
Database Engineering & Architecture
Design, develop, enhance, and maintain large-scale enterprise database systems.
Develop scalable database structures, schemas, stored procedures, views, and other database components.
Apply strong data modeling and database design principles.
Analyze existing and legacy database systems and recommend opportunities for modernization and simplification.
Design solutions capable of handling large data volumes reliably and efficiently.

Database Performance & Maintenance
Perform database performance analysis and troubleshooting.
Design and optimize indexes based on application and reporting workloads.
Implement and manage table partitioning strategies where appropriate.
Manage database statistics, query optimization, execution plans, and performance tuning.
Identify database bottlenecks and recommend improvements for scalability, reliability, and availability.
Support database monitoring and observability using tools such as Datadog or similar platforms.

Data Warehouse & Data Engineering
Design, develop, and maintain enterprise Data Warehouse solutions.
Build and support ETL/ELT pipelines for integrating data from multiple sources.
Develop appropriate fact tables, dimension tables, and reporting-oriented data models.
Implement data validation and data quality controls throughout data pipelines.
Troubleshoot data issues across source systems, transformation processes, databases, warehouses, and downstream reporting.

Cloud Data Engineering
Design and support cloud-based data solutions, preferably within Microsoft Azure.
Experience with technologies such as Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory (ADF), Azure Storage/Data Lake, or comparable cloud data technologies.
Participate in the modernization and migration of legacy/on-premises data solutions to cloud-based platforms.
Work closely with development, infrastructure, and DevOps teams to build reliable and supportable cloud data solutions.

Reporting & Business Intelligence
Design, develop, enhance, and support SSRS reports.
Develop and support Power BI reports and dashboards.
Design reporting-friendly data models and datasets.
Work directly with business users to understand reporting and data requirements.
Troubleshoot reporting issues across the reporting, database, and underlying data layers.

Production Support & Operational Excellence
Support business-critical production data platforms and reporting solutions.
Perform root-cause analysis for database, data pipeline, performance, and reporting issues.
Establish effective monitoring and alerting for data platforms.
Proactively identify performance, stability, capacity, and data-quality issues.
Collaborate with application developers, DBAs, infrastructure teams, business analysts, and other technology partners.

Financial Services & Business Knowledge
Strong willingness and ability to learn the financial-services business, including the business meaning and usage of the data being processed.
Ability to translate business requirements into effective data and reporting solutions.
Previous experience in financial services or asset management is preferred.

Experience in one or more of the following areas is a strong plus:
ETFs
Fund Administration
Investment or fund accounting data
Securities and position data
Reconciliation and financial reporting
Eagle or similar investment data/accounting platforms

Required Qualifications
8+ years of hands-on experience in database engineering, database design, data warehousing, or related data engineering roles.
Advanced SQL development and troubleshooting skills.
Strong experience with relational database design and large-scale database systems.
Experience with database performance tuning, indexing, partitioning, statistics, and query optimization.
Strong understanding of Data Warehouse and ETL/ELT concepts.
Experience designing or supporting enterprise reporting solutions.
Experience troubleshooting complex data and production issues.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Microsoft SQL Server experience.
Azure Data Factory (ADF) experience.
Azure SQL and other Azure data-platform experience.
SSIS or comparable ETL technology experience.
SSRS development and support experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Datadog or similar monitoring/observability experience.
Experience migrating legacy/on-premises data platforms to the cloud.
Financial-services or asset-management domain knowledge.
Experience with ETF, Eagle, Fund Administrator, or investment-data environments
