We believe power is a promise - a shared commitment to be there for others when it matters most.
For more than 65 years, we've turned big ideas into solutions that help protect homes, strengthen businesses and build a more resilient, efficient, sustainable energy future.
Ready to Power a Smarter World with us?
The Data Architect III designs, develops, and implements scalable enterprise data architectures that support business operations, analytics, reporting, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation initiatives. This role serves as a senior technical contributor responsible for data modeling, integration architecture, data governance enablement, and cloud data platform design across enterprise systems. Partners with business stakeholders, enterprise architects, data engineers, and technology teams to ensure data solutions are secure, scalable, governed, and aligned with business strategy.
As a Data Architect III on Generac’s Industrial Cloud team, you will play a critical role in designing and evolving cloud-scale data platforms that power our industrial IoT solutions. This role sits at the intersection of architecture, data engineering, and platform strategy—owning the design of highly available, high‑volume data systems that ingest and serve telematics data from industrial energy assets in the field.Â
At Generac, we are committed to building sustainable, cleaner energy technology at scale. You’ll join a collaborative, high‑impact team working on cloud-hosted services that monitor and optimize large‑scale generators, battery storage, and microgrid systems—software that is used, valued, and makes a real difference.Â
Â
Responsibilities:Â
- Define and own the architecture for cloud-based data solutions, ensuring scalability, reliability, and high availabilityÂ
- Lead data architecture discussions and collaborate closely with engineering, product, ML, and cross‑functional stakeholdersÂ
- Design, build, and maintain production datastores supporting high‑speed, high‑volume industrial IoT and telematics dataÂ
- Translate business and product requirements into conceptual, logical, and physical data modelsÂ
- Drive best practices for data reliability, performance tuning, partitioning, indexing, and data qualityÂ
- Analyze how customers and systems use data, identify inefficiencies, and propose architectural improvementsÂ
- Coach and mentor engineers on data architecture best practices through design reviews, code reviews, and technical guidanceÂ
- Clearly explain complex technical solutions to both technical and non‑technical audiences, including leadershipÂ
Â
Minimum Qualifications:Â
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experienceÂ
- 8+ years of experience working across the data tier, from design through development and production supportÂ
- 5+ years of experience in a data architect role with strong grounding in enterprise data architecture conceptsÂ
- Proven experience leading data architecture in production cloud environments (Azure preferred)Â
Â
Preferred Qualifications:Â
- Experience working with high‑speed, high‑volume telematics or time‑series dataÂ
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code, preferably TerraformÂ
- Programming or scripting experience in Python, PowerShell, and/or T‑SQLÂ
- Experience supporting or enabling AI/ML projectsÂ
- Knowledge of data governance, data privacy, and compliance (e.g., GDPR)Â
- Enterprise‑level expertise with Microsoft SQL Server or similar relational databasesÂ
- Hands‑on experience with at least one NoSQL database (e.g., key‑value, document, graph, or column store)Â
- Strong experience with data warehouse, data lake, and lakehouse design patternsÂ
- Experience designing and maintaining data pipelinesÂ
- Deep knowledge of data modeling (conceptual, logical, physical)Â
- Strong understanding of performance tuning, indexing, and partitioning strategiesÂ
- Passion for modern data architecture, microservices, and cloud-native data platformsÂ
- A naturally curious, growth‑oriented mindset with a desire to mentor and elevate othersÂ
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across teamsÂ
