Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to serve as Assistant Area Director of Advanced Practice – Hospital Medicine for the Wake Forest Market. This leadership position combines clinical expertise with operational oversight, supporting APP teams and Hospital Medicine operations across multiple sites of care within the market.

Provides leadership related to clinical quality, safety, patient experience, access, utilization, and productivity

Primary Responsibilities
The Assistant Area Director will serve as a visible clinical leader for Advanced Practice Providers within Hospital Medicine and provide operational support across designated sites within the Wake Forest Market.

Key responsibilities include:
Provide clinical and operational leadership to Hospital Medicine APP teams
Implement and oversee tactical initiatives established by Area and Divisional Service Line leadership
Identify opportunities to improve clinical quality, safety, patient and APP experience, access to care, utilization, and productivity
Serve as a primary communication link between frontline APPs and Hospital Medicine leadership
Communicate organizational strategy, standards, and operational changes clearly and effectively
Elevate site-specific needs, risks, and opportunities to appropriate leadership
Support APP recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, engagement, professional development, and retention
Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Partner with administrative, physician, and Advanced Practice leadership to optimize care delivery and operational performance
Maintain an appropriate clinical presence and serve as a trusted resource for practicing APPs

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an experienced NP or PA with a strong Hospital Medicine background who is ready to expand their impact beyond direct patient care into formal Advanced Practice leadership.

Successful candidates will demonstrate:
Significant clinical experience in Hospital Medicine or inpatient medicine
Previous leadership, supervisory, or operational experience preferred
Strong understanding of APP practice and team-based inpatient care
Ability to lead and support APPs across multiple locations
Strong communication, relationship-building, and conflict-resolution skills
Ability to translate organizational strategy into effective frontline operations
Demonstrated commitment to quality, safety, teammate engagement, and patient experience
Strong organizational and change-management skills
Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, APPs, nursing, administration, and senior leadership

Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner Candidates
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
Master’s degree or Doctor of Nursing Practice required
Appropriate national board certification required
Current or eligible for North Carolina NP/APRN and RN licensure
DEA registration and prescriptive authority as required
BLS certification through the American Heart Association

Physician Assistant Candidates
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
Master’s degree preferred
NCCPA certification required
Current or eligible for North Carolina PA licensure
DEA registration and prescriptive authority as required
BLS certification through the American Heart Association

Leadership experience within Hospital Medicine, Advanced Practice, or a comparable inpatient environment is strongly preferred.
