Job Summary:
PRN position requiring flexibility to provide coverage for Endoscopy, Radiology, and other procedural areas based on departmental and hospital needs. Position does not routinely perform specimen accessioning or routine specimen processing.Job Description:
- Provides cytology support for Endoscopy, Radiology, and other diagnostic procedures requiring an on-site cytologist in a hospital environment.
- Attends procedures to provide rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) of cytology specimens, when applicable, to assess specimen adequacy and assist with appropriate specimen collection.
- Screens GYN & Non GYN microscope slides quickly and efficiently within prescribed departmental guidelines for quantity and accuracy, which is determined by individual discrepancy rates compared to departmental discrepancy rates, applying diagnostic criteria and clinical history to arrive at an appropriate diagnosis to present to the pathologist or clinician.
- Performs and documents quality control as specified for each procedure meeting established internal and regulatory guidelines. Participates in Quality Assurance activities to meet the Medical Center's continuing quality improvement standards.
- Enhances professional growth and development of self, department staff, other hospital personnel, community and students by participation in continuing education, and In-service training and the School of Medical Technology.
- Implements ICARE principles using communication skills and human relations to promote quality patient care and a productive working environment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Credentials, Licenses:
BS in Cytotechnology or related field
Must be an ASCP registered Cytotechnologist
Specialized Knowledge:Â
Hologic ThinPrep gynecologic and non-gynecologic screening
Kind and Length of Experience:Â
At least 1 year of experience is preferred.
