Description of Position:
The Crisis Care QMHP will provide timely, trauma-informed mental health and crisis intervention services to individuals experiencing acute emotional, behavioral, or psychiatric distress.

Job Knowledge & Comprehension:
- Conducts mental health assessments, evaluates safety and risk, develops and implements individualized crisis intervention plans, and provides stabilization and supportive counseling.
- Diagnose behavioral health disorders and conditions based on assessments, interviews, and clinical observations.
- Collaborates with client, families, healthcare providers, law enforcement, and community agencies to coordinate appropriate services and ensure continuity of care.
- Develop individualized treatment and safety plan for client before discharge.
- Responds effectively to high-risk situations while maintaining a calm, compassionate, and person-centered approach.
- Facilitate involuntary commitments to psychiatric hospitals as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned consistent with exempt functions.
Work Quality & Accuracy:
- Participate in in-service trainings and staff meetings.
- Documents assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and in accordance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
- Provide crisis intervention service to clients in the on call rotation and document the interaction in electronic health record.
- Provide follow up, next day contact with clients discharged to the community on an outpatient plan.
Work Habits & Time Management:
- Complete all required documentation related to client service delivery in timely fashion.
- Complete discharge and safety plans immediately following discharge from crisis care.
- Complete monthly data report to the Division of Behavioral Health by the 5th of each month.
Professional Conduct & Development:
- Seek out consultation in a timely manner with supervisor(s) or clinical team when in doubt.
- Keep supervisor(s) informed of atypical clinical situations as well as participates in staff meetings to update staff of potential crisis situations with client case load.
- Maintain discretion and confidentiality as required in all communication with others.
- Provide professional & educational presentations to the community as needed.
- Demonstrate a positive image of the Human Service Agency by applying effective human relation skills with clients, visitors and other employees.
- Stay informed of the latest research, best practices and continuing education opportunities in the mental health field.
- Assure continuing education and licensure renewal are kept up to date.
- Abide by the philosophy, mission, and ethical standards of the Human Service Agency.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Masters degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or a related human services field. Must possess and up to date license in the state of South Dakota in respectful field.
- Must be registered or certified as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) in the state of South Dakota.
- Cannot be in the Office of Inspector General (OIG) exclusionary database.
The Board of Directors of the Human Service Agency shall have the prerogative to hire staff whose qualifications may vary from the above. This position requires access to Electronic Personal Health Information (EPHI). Current HSA Policies and Procedures apply. It is the responsibility of the employee to read, understand, and comply with HSA policies and procedures that apply to protected information and security.
