Position Summary
The Crew Leader oversees and directs a field crew responsible for maintaining City rights-of-way, performing concrete and masonry work, and installing, operating, and maintaining traffic control devices. This position coordinates daily work assignments, ensures quality and safety standards are met, provides administrative support to the supervisor, trains staff, manages workloads, and serves as acting supervisor when assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are representative of the position and are not intended to be all-inclusive. Additional duties may be assigned.
Plan and coordinate daily work with the supervisor and assign tasks to crew members.
Lead, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff, including assisting with hiring, training, coaching, and performance evaluations.
Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with City policies and applicable safety regulations, including work zone traffic control.
Oversee and participate in maintenance activities, including:
Grounds and right-of-way maintenance
Concrete and masonry work
Sign fabrication and installation
Traffic signal and traffic control device installation, programming, maintenance, and troubleshooting
Carpentry, mowing, leaf collection, drilling, ditching, and other public works maintenance tasks
Complete work orders, reports, and other required documentation using City software and computer systems.
Assist with procurement by following City purchasing policies to obtain materials, tools, and equipment.
Perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance on vehicles, equipment, and facilities, and assist with equipment scheduling and cleaning.
Investigate citizen concerns, maintain positive public relations, and recommend solutions to service issues.
Monitor compliance with required safety and Risk Management training.
Safely operate a variety of construction, earthmoving, and maintenance equipment.
Serve in an on-call rotation and respond to after-hours emergencies as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Current job title is Operations Technician III (OMT III)
