Counter Sales Specialist

An established plumbing and PVF distributor is seeking an experienced Counter Sales Specialist to support contractors, plumbers, maintenance professionals, and walk-in customers at its Staten Island branch.

This is a fast-moving, customer-facing role for someone who knows plumbing products, enjoys solving problems, and can keep orders accurate when the counter gets busy. You will help customers find the right materials, source specialty items, build complete orders, and get them back to the job site quickly.

What You Will Do: 

• Assist walk-in and phone customers with plumbing, PVF, water heater, fixture, and supply needs

• Recommend products, substitutions, and compatible alternatives

• Prepare quotes and enter orders accurately using an ERP or point-of-sale system

• Process account, credit, and cash transactions

• Handle returns, credits, special orders, and warranty items

• Build relationships with repeat contractors and understand their jobs and buying preferences

• Recommend related fittings, tools, sealants, hangers, and safety supplies to complete each order

• Source non-stock products through vendors and other locations

• Review material lists, plans, and submittals for smaller project takeoffs

• Answer practical product questions involving pipe, fittings, valves, sizing, and compatibility

• Partner with outside sales and quotations on larger project opportunities

• Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe counter area

What We Are Looking For:

• At least two years of counter sales, inside sales, warehouse, or hands-on trade experience within plumbing, PVF, HVAC, or wholesale distribution

• Working knowledge of copper, PEX, PVC, CPVC, cast iron, steel, stainless pipe, fittings, valves, water heaters, fixtures, and related specialties

• Experience using an ERP or point-of-sale system; DDI or Eclipse experience is especially helpful

• Strong math skills for pricing, quantities, conversions, and takeoffs

• A friendly, dependable communicator who stays calm and accurate during busy periods

• High school diploma or GED

Additional Experience That Stands Out: 

• Five or more years in plumbing or PVF distribution

• Previous experience as a plumber, pipefitter, or related tradesperson

• Existing relationships with local contractors

• Forklift certification

• Bilingual English and Spanish or English and Yiddish capabilities

Schedule: 

The typical schedule is Monday through Friday from approximately 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional Sunday morning coverage.
