Visa Information
TTUHSC, at its sole discretion, may initiate new H-1B I-129 visa petitions in accordance with the directive issued by Governor Abbott. Approval from the Texas Workforce Commission is required. On a limited, case-by-case basis, the institution may also sponsor eligible individuals for change-of-status or change-of-employer petitions for qualifying positions. TTUHSC will not pay the $100,000 fee, if applicable.Position Description
Performs personal, vocational, educational, or other counseling or training at the individual or group level at theBell County Jail in Belton, TX. May assist in the coordination and management of the program. Work is performed under general supervision with performance based on individual counseling effectiveness and overall program results obtained.Major/Essential Functions
As a mental health Counselor, you’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference by providing compassionate mental health support to patients. Working as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team, you’ll help patients with the services and resources they need to support their mental health and overall well-being.
- Mental Health Screening & Assessment: Conduct intake and follow-up mental health screenings to identify patient needs and help guide appropriate services and interventions.
- Care Coordination & Case Management: Serve as a resource and advocate for assigned patients, connecting them with facility-based programs, psychiatric services, and appropriate community or reentry resources.
- Wellness & Supportive Engagement: Build positive therapeutic relationships through routine wellness checks, supportive interactions, and proactive engagement with patients.
- Crisis Intervention: Provide calm, responsive support during mental health crises and collaborate with the care team to help promote patient safety and stabilization.
- Clinical Documentation: Maintain clear, accurate, and timely documentation while supporting established clinical, organizational, and regulatory requirements.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Partner with psychiatric providers, nurses, custody staff, program coordinators, and other professionals to provide coordinated, patient-centered mental health services.
- Operational Support: Remain flexible and responsive to patient and program needs, assisting with additional responsibilities that support the overall delivery of quality mental health services.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and one year of experience in a related area. Additional education in a related area may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of jail-based mental health service standards, suicide prevention practices, and crisis intervention principles.
- Experience in the coordination of care and making appropriate referrals to facility programs, treatment services, and community resources.

Pay Statement
